First of all, if you are ever coming to Starkville and need a place to stay, I recommend the Holiday Inn Express. By far the nicest hotel with the friendliest staff of all the hotels in town. I come to you with this rambling from its business center tonight.
It is now clear to me that Sylvester Croom is the most imcompetent manager of a football game there is in college football today.
Ed Orgeron
Call me a pessimist, but I told nearly everyone who knows me on a personal level that there was no way I was going to parade Croom around town on a camel and proclaim him king of the world and the answer to our problems after just one year. I said that I believed last year was a fluke, and it was going to take Croom proving me wrong this year until I believed otherwise. Well, looks like last year was a fluke!!
After three games it's obvious we are back to our 2006 form where Auburn beat us 34 - 0..... oh wait it was a much closer game this time.
Why is that at LA Tech, on 4th and 4 from our own 48 yard line with 3:03 to go and 1 time out left, that we punt the ball? Why is it tonight, that on 4th and 14 with just under 4 minutes to go and 2 time outs left on our own 44 yard line (I may be wrong on the line), we go for it against a team who had pretty much stopped us all night?
I think you are right on this one. He should have gone for it vs LaTech and punted vs Auburn. But what's the difference really? Unless he makes the first down he's going to catch hell either way.
Why is it that at LA Tech we played a two QB system, but tonight, at a time when Croom should have switched QB'S and given Tyson Lee a chance to spark the offense, he stuck with Wesley Carol the whole night? GIVE THE BACK UP A CHANCE TO PROVIDE A SPARK!
Because if he comes in and throws a pick or fumbles a snap then the game gets out of hand and we have NO chance at winning. LEE had problems with hand offs and snaps last game. My FIANCE pointed this out to me.
Ray Charles could predict our play calling. How many times on 3rd and 6 or more, did we run a 3 yard or less pass route? Why is it that over the past 5 seasons, this has been the norm?
Play calling is quite routine and we can't even execute those plays. This is bear bryant influence coming through. He had like five plays and executed them effectively.
How many times does a top 10 team gift wrap a game to you in your own back yard, and you say, "No thanks. You take it, we don't want it!" A decent football team takes the gift and wins the game. Unfortunately, we are not even a decent team.
We should have at LEAST made the field goal.
If I play on defense, I am royally pissed at the offense. My only defensive complaint was the fact that we tried to pressure their QB all night with 4 down linemen, and rarely blitzed. Other than that, they get a free pass.
In my line of work, if I don't produce, I get fired. Bottom line, no questions asked. Why is it at Mississippi State, we give our offensive "coach" a $75,000 pay raise and a contract extension after a season in which his offense was ranked 100 and something? WHERE IS THE ACCOUNTABILITY? I hope that our new AD holds our coaching staff accountable and rolls some heads after this year. I am begining to think Croom's contract extension was a huge mistake. Face it people, you may hate Croom, but he's here. We can't afford to buy him out.
As much as I loathed Jackieass Sherrill at the end of his regime, seeing he and the 1998 team on the field tonight sure did make me miss the fun we had those 4 years I was in school.
Oh Ok Now i see the cause of the ramblings.
The season is over with. We were hanging on by a cliff after the LA Tech debacle, and tonight, Auburn delivered the knock out blow!!! If we somehow turn this thing around and make a bowl game, I will make a public apology on here, and will personally send Croom a letter apologizing. BUT IT'S OVER! YOU CAN WRAP THE SEASON IN MAROON AND WHITE.
We no doubt need every win we can get. It's going to be hard to go bowling this year. I predicted a W @ Latech and an L @ Georgia Tech so maybe they can flip flop those two and be back "on-track" so to speak.
I don't want to hear our fan base spewing their venom telling me "It's OK! There's a lot of football left to be played." It's not OK! With the schedule we play, we should be 3-0 right now!!!
Actually we should be 2-1 right now. You seem to have an inflated view of how good our team should be.
