Our community lost a favored son today.

Brian “Zeke” Pitman, 45, passed away at 2:00 pm today after a short battle with cancer.
Brian was a lifelong resident of Dinwiddie, a teacher and a principal, and wore a lot of different hats in support of the kids in our community. He was a fixture on the sidelines of the Dinwiddie football games for as far back as anyone can remember, videoing our games.

Brian was currently the Principal of the Alternate High School and he was perfect for the job. He was soft spoken, always relaxed and comfortable to be around, the type of person that kids were drawn to. It is impossible to count the number of young lives that he had a positive influence on.

Brian did have one vice that ultimately killed him. Cigarettes. He had been a heavy smoker all his life. If he could speak to you today, I guarantee he would tell you, if you smoke, stop, it wasn’t worth it.

Brian leaves behind two beautiful daughters, one of which is still in high school. He also leaves behind a young grandchild.

Here is a sample of the type of thing Brian did as his hobby.

You know all too well my disdain for that dreaded C word. NavyNation and the Pittman family are in my thoughts and prayers my friend.

After Dinwiddie’s 2013 Championship game with Sherando, Brian went back to his hotel room and stayed up all night putting this highlight film together. That is who he was. He knew the fans wanted the highlights and he made it happen.
