Message: <blockquote data-quote="The Bell Tolls for Thee" data-source="post: 132645893" data-attributes="member: 1812660"><p>Pat only got to take over that game because Bednarik was hurt.  It is a classic example of why practice is not always the whole story and why if the best player in practice *cough* Doege *cough* is consistently underperforming on game day, the next man up may deserve a try.  Usually it will go just as badly with the next man up, but there are times when it doesn't hurt to try.  Slaton also was buried on that depth chart at 4 to start the season and only was a starter at that point because Colson, Pernell, and one other person were either hurt or ineffective against VT and Slaton looked like a world beater in that loss.  Both guys made the most of the opportunity given.</p></blockquote><p></p>
