Facemask decorations?

Watching replay of game this morning, can't sleep. So when did mouthpieces become facemask decorations instead of a required piece of equipment? Is that why there are so many grills in football, all the teeth knocked out? I've seen multiple players with pink and green (yes two) mouthpieces hanging from their facemasks but never in the mouth on both teams? I don't think I'm that old but could be wrong?

Pretty sure I saw an ASU player with two mouthpieces, same color scheme as well. The internet is saying in case they lose one they have a backup. Doesn't make sense to me since I never saw it in Fluff's mouth.

Saban wouldn’t allow it. Whitlock says Alabama culture is too gay and soft now. I would say we need to be careful too and toughen up. I get we have the gay &tate on the helmets but that doesn’t mean we have to cater to every damn thing. If you’ve already got a mouthpiece then get the other TWO off your helmet. So gay and retarded.

Not sure why it hurts those against have >1 mouthpiece. I don't really care. If thats what the kids wanna do and then so be it. I hate to lose a nice recruit because of a silly rule by the coach or whoever. Just win!
