I take no sides because there seems to be no end but here are some facts . We have more guns and more murders . Availability is easy . Average people are selling illegally . Most murders are not by the rural people we know . Usually the mass killings are by people who did not own guns for sport . Guns don't kill people but people with mental disease do and we seem to have more than most . I feel safer with the country rural gentleman with guns than being in the city . What is the answer ? No idea . my fear of Liberty is they have become too political than religious or pious . They are creating their own church of politics and power .

The answer is making it nigh impossible for private citizens to own one, like the rest of the forward-thinking world. Shockingly, violent crimes in those countries are a fraction of what they are in a country where you can buy a weapon easier than you can buy a car.
That's really all there is to it. It's a frighteningly simple answer. We're unfortunately past the point of return on being able to do that without a bunch of unnecessary deaths caused by idiots with tacky "DON'T TREAD ON ME" bumper stickers pasted on their F-150s who'd rather shoot a cop than surrender their beloved guns.
Guns, much like drugs, present easy solutions to fix them and the evidence seems to fly in the face of what people are raised to believe(legalizing drugs lowers crime and addiction rates, for instance) and people are by nature dumb and stubborn so it is what it is, sadly. You can't use to logic to argue with someone who didn't arrive at their beliefs using logic.

While I haven't posted much lately due to having to do an actual job, I do try to keep up from time to time.
Just a reminder before I go ... grown men with guns made this country and gave you the right to decide if you wanted to own one or not. That "Don't tread on me" bumper sticker you so easily laughed about was the creed of many Americans who made it possible for you to enjoy the life you have today. And before you ask, no I do not have one but the sentiment runs deep within me.
Your facts on gun violence are wrong. Your attitude is wrong. People screaming for freedom and tolerance while not wanting to allow it for someone who doesn't agree with their ideals is wrong.
I am not in the NRA because I strongly believe that they are just as radical and idiotic at times as the anti-gun people. I don't need someone's permission or approval to own and enjoy firearms. I also, however, don't trash people who don't wish to own them.
Oh and while your at it, this is not a football discussion, so go ahead and delete this post like the many others that you've banned over the years that weren't about football, unless of course that offends someones delicate sense of right and wrong in the world.

People with don't tread on me bumper stickers driving Ford F 150s are responsible for a very very small percentage of gun violence. If you want to attack the people who are causing most of the gun violence you need to look at gangs in places like Chicago

1morehokie, I understand your point; however, to say it would be easy to fix drug and gun issues is misleading. If every legal gun was turned in voluntarily by law abiding citizens there would be millions of illegal weapons within our society.
As one who faces this danger (illegal guns) on a daily basis I can tell you they are readily available and much cheaper than legal ones.
I dont buy into the fact that legal guns (concealed permits) deter criminals, but i do believe one has the right to protect his own life, family and property.
Just as prohibition before, the illegal drug issue has a direct correlation to illegal gun possession and violence in our country. Think about it. Users need to steal and rob to make a score. Dealers need to protect their product and cash from crazy users and the law abiding citizen have to decide whether to give in or protect themselves.
With the revitalized heroin trade hitting the urban and rural areas at an alarming pace we all may have to face this issue very soon. I can promise you its not an intercity issue.
If you want a clear cut answer ask your local PD or Sheriffs Office if they have the man power to fight crime and truly protect citizens. "Protect and serve" has a new meaning in todays society.
