Falcons want Norwood more involved with offense

Remember when Norwood was Croom's <span style="font-style: italic;">entire</span> offense? Ah, memories.

They really love him in the ATL. Well, the fans have loved him all along, judging by the comments on the AJC and the number of #32 jerseys in the Dome and at training camp. But there's finally a coaching staff determined to make use of him.

</a>[url="http://"]<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" title="He's a running back, a receiver, a kick returner and sometimes even a quarterback. Jerious Norwood does a little bit of everything for the Falcons and they want to use him even more." href="http://www.ajc.com/falcons/content/sports/falcons/stories/2008/11/06/falcons_jerious_norwood_offense.html">He's a running back, a receiver, a kick returner and sometimes even a quarterback. Even the recycled arguments about him not being durable enough are falling away. Other than the skinny legs, I don't know where the hell those came from--I think he's missed one game in three seasons here due to injury.

That reminds me--at the start of this season, didn't Croom suggest that Dixon, all Dontae and ****** vision, might be a better back than Norwood?

Norwood had absolutely no Oline to run behind. We might as well went to the A-11 except run every play up the gut like Croom likes to do. Norwood basically won the Egg Bowl by himself on the offensive side of the ball. That is one of the best games from an individual I have ever seen in real life. He simply refused to lose.

Even at State, Norwood would more often than not deliver a blow on the defensive player. I always thought he had good power.

he didn't get up was against LSU. He got murdered on one hit. I think even his helmet popped off.

His helmet got launched straight up into the air, and the old lady in front of us delivered another classic one liner. "I hope his head ain't still in the helmet."

257 yards all by himself. Simply incredible. The offense didn't do a thing except for his runs. The only time he scored a touchdown was when he broke a long run.

Norwood is the best back we've ever had, and isn't likely to have that position usurped. I've often wondered what kind of gaudy numbers he would have put up behind a decent OL. Norwood in the late 90's would have been insane.

Also, you can't tell me that a spread option based attack with Omar and Jerious wouldn't have been deadly (that's making the HUGE assumption that the o-line could have done its job).

I've often wondered how Norwood might've compared to another RB out of the same draft (and in the NFC South) had he been able to run behind that USC OL.

that's preposterous. why would you want to use a running back like that? who cares that he played some quarterback in high school - at D1 and the NFL levels, you pick a position and stay there. unless you move from wr to cb back to wr. or burning a redshirt to move a cb to wr after 8 games.

Direct snaps to Norwood with Turner as the offset RB.

The one stupid thing they're doing with Norwood that concerns me is that they have him <span style="font-style: italic;">covering</span> kickoffs.

He's the fastest guy on the field, usually, and can make some tackles, but sooner or later he's going to get blindsided when opposing coaches realize they could knock him out of the game.

(that was kind of funny)

What would that helmet in your sig line look like with a white face mask?

The way he breaks down the Redskin safety at 4:30 is hilarious. He is ridiculously fast and has such great vision.

One of my all time favorite Bulldogs.
Thanks Jackie!

..is his stiffarm. He's got long arms. He stretches out that arm to create space. The defender pushes toward Norwood and Norwood's arm keeps the space, so the defender is just pushing Norwood farther away from the defender. He's damn good at this. He does it all the time. Did at State a lot too.

We'd have an SEC championship, perhaps a national championship (yeah I said it). And Norwood would have a Heisman.

I tried a couple of times, but I'm not good enough with PS or PSP to pull it off.

Here's the original:

Maybe some of the Photoshop experts could make it look right.

A white face mask probably would fit best, but I like what you have there. It's already a hell of a lot better than those disgusting things we wear now.

.....better, Jerious Norwood or Reggie Bush. Now I'm not going to really get into that because Bush certainly has his own merits. But so far I think Jerious has clearly proven that he's at least just as good and beneficial to his team as Bush is. It's just taken a while for Atlanta coaches to grow a brain and realize what a special weapon they have.
