Virginia high school football coach resigns after assistant coach arrested for grooming

Kettle Run High School's head football coach Charlie Porterfield was put on administrative leave during the investigation and never returned to work.

Tragic for the victims and their families. May Hix rot in hell.
If Porterfield even so much as heard rumors and did not act, he is culpable and should never be allowed around kids again.

This interim coach, Delmar Christian, does he have much or any coaching experience?

I wish the kids well, especially the seniors. Damn shame their love of football gets screwed up because of sick adults.

I know nothing of the situation, but I can think of several reasons that Porterfield might resign despite having no knowledge of any of the nonsense Hix was into. I’m very hesitant to assign blame to Porterfield unless there’s evidence or reporting implicating him.

This is really a tragic situation all around. I havent found anyone that doesn't have wonderful things to say about Coach Porterfield. The program has reached heights that no other Fauquier program had ever previously reached. It also felt like they were still ascending when this all happened.

As for the current team moving forward, the interim is their DC. He was a star player back in the day for my Fauquier Falcons and played at JMU. He has been at KR since it opened. He makes sense as an interim. I thought they may go with Ty Lang who was their OC who is the best young coach I have ever seen but he resigned from what I was told. He wasn't a teacher in the school so maybe he will pop up somewhere else. The offense they had this past year was special.

They have a bunch of talent still. Will be interesting to see who plays QB or if the offense will be the same. Losing Porterfield and Lang will be tough but the schedule is not tough and the region is really bad with Armstrong and TeeJay leaving. Probably a trip to the state playoffs in line still but the hope of a state title probably is out of reach.

I certainly wish the program nothing but the best. Adversity can be used as a strong motivator.
