The rule of thumb is 21 points to ice away a victory. If the unthinkable happens, then you probably go to OT. Dan should have let Graves have a kick if he wants to play the 2nd string. Take those points. Denver Seattle was an example of how fast a lead can disappear.

I applaud Dan for not trying to run up the score on Miles. But if a group of fans deserve it, it is LSU. Dan must have forgotten the 59 last year.

The fallout:
1. Les turns in Day to the SEC. Day is suspended for an important game. Sounds like sour grapes or a team vote. But no favors from Les.
2. State plays in two weeks at 11 AM and LSU plays in Primetime. If our game was at least a 14 pt victory, LSU would be less attractive and State would have been firmly in the top 15 in both polls. The times would have flipped.

Dan has to start taking care of these little things in the game, those at the end of the halves, because the rest of the SEC does not want State to suceed.

Nah. It's unfortunate but I think LSU/Auburn is a bigger national draw. I think A&M/State is a bigger regional draw.

Not even sure if we're a bigger regional draw. Auburn and lsu will always be a big ratings game

I think people in the SEC are now interested in State. Even nationally but to the casual fan - LSU/Auburn > State/A&M

I agree about the FG. If nothing else, it would be good for our kickers to see the ball go through the uprights again.

I don't blame Mullen for his line of thinking on not kicking the FG.

I also see why some people are upset we didn't. There was a little under 4 minutes left in the game and we were up 3 scores. If we don't get the first down then Lsu has to drive 97 yards to get the first score. A lot of coaches would have done what Mullen did there, because either way Lsu has to score 3 times and most coaches would rather them go 97 yards than to kickoff and Lsu start in great field position or get a TD off the kickoff.

Even with Lsu scoring in 6 plays, the drive took 2 minutes off the clock. And if Muniz doesn't decide to play hot potato, then I doubt anyone would be talking about not going for the FG. Hell if Muniz would have waited till 3rd down to throw the ball 20 yards, Lsu would have never got the ball back after the 2nd onside kick. That was the biggest issue that Lsu only used 1 TO before the turnover.

Agree on the decision to not kick the FG. I didn't have a problem with it. What I did have a problem with was not putting J-Rob in on 3rd and 4th down to pick up the first, and instead having 3rd string Nick Griffin with two shot knees. Then the biggest mistake was going prevent defense and only rushing three linemen. Just do the same thing defensively we'd been doing all game that only let LSU get one offensive touchdown through 56 minutes. Prevent defense almost always means a quick scoring drive. But even after that, if we keep Day in the game and not have the fumble, even if we don't get a first down and have to punt, LSU would have 1:30 to go 80+ yards with no timeouts, and then have to recover an onside kick and score again. The biggest two mistakes was the prevent defense and putting Muniz in to snap the ball, not turning down the FG attempt.

I would say the same thing, but

1. Johnny Manziel and Sumlin made A&M a national draw.
2. A&M still brings the Big 12 footprint to the table.
3. The game is not in Red Stick.
4. LSU and AU both looked bad last week while State and A&M have momentum.
5. LSU is not undefeated and lucky to be Top 20.

The goodthing is Dan

admitted to making mistakes at the end of the game, and seems to have realized that he should have done them differently.
