Another thread has some references to this topic, but I will open it more globally. My only input would include a great way to get perspective on this matter. Get into a position for a few years that puts you in the stands at all types of venues, suburban and city. For example, a lower level coach who goes out every Friday to take scout video from the heart of the bleachers. What is heard, seen and tolerated from students, family/friend fans and coaches is unbelievable.

Woody, you got that right.
For many years I had a somewhat unique perspective to watch the games and the crowd.
No problem with about 99% of what was said, but I'm not sure what some people think gives them the right to personally attack coaches, referees, other players or even their own players when those people's families might be sitting right there too.
With that said, there was a pretty good size group of Dad's that all used to sit together who did significant pre-gaming as well as during-gaming who were really nasty, but as I think about it none of them had the balls to sit by their own family so their own wife or kids could hear what they were saying...

Quite frankly this is one of the many reasons why I enjoy covering football. Being on the sideline you really don't hear too much from the stands really at all. Unlike in basketball where some of what I hear makes my skin crawl.

I always sit away from the parents in my own area that way I don't have to listen to the complaining. Some people have no class when it comes to how to behave at a game.
