no surprise really but he officially declared for the draft today. I hope Hochenson goes too
Is he going to play in their bowl game?
Surely he won't play in the pinstripe bowlIs he going to play in their bowl game?
I thought he was named first team all big ten? WinkingWasnt even the best TE on their team
werent BOTH of their TEs first team?I thought he was named first team all big ten? Winking
I have a hard time being mad at a kid who doesn't want to risk losing out on millions if he gets his leg snapped playing in the Consolation Prize Bowl. It's not like they're in the playoff or even the CCG. It's ultimately a meaningless bowl game.I think this is lame. I get it, protect the investment, but what happened to the concept of a team? If we were going to a bowl and Stan decided to do this, I expect he would catch hell on this board and deservedly so.
Speaking of meaningless Iowa bowl games, here's a list:I have a hard time being mad at a kid who doesn't want to risk losing out on millions if he gets his leg snapped playing in the Consolation Prize Bowl. I know, right? The easy joke for Iowa fans would be: If Noah didn't want to play in a bowl game, he should have gone to Nebraska.Hilarious. Which ones did we go to the last two years after we went to the worst one possible the year before?

Like it or not, that's the new reality. Do you think Stanley Morgan would have played in the Pinstripe bowl? I bet not.
Fant was first team coaches, I haven't seen media. thought it was funny that Hockenson was TE of the year and the coaches name Fant 1st team lol But then again I thought it was hilarious that 3 Badgers lineman are 1st team and they can't beat the Gophers.werent BOTH of their TEs first team?

Unless of course he's playing for the Huskers......I have a hard time being mad at a kid who doesn't want to risk losing out on millions if he gets his leg snapped playing in the Consolation Prize Bowl. It's not like they're in the playoff or even the CCG. It's ultimately a meaningless bowl game.
I missed most of the game, but what little I did see which included bad passes, can be a result of protection breakdowns. Interceptions aren’t always on the quarterback… If the quarterback has no protection from the line, they’re going to throw interceptions. So I somewhat disagree, and would say that the Oline for Wisconsin was an issue. At least the portions of the game that I saw.The Badgers lost the Minnesota game because they couldn’t stop Minnesota offense and Hornibrook threw a couple of INT, it had nothing to do with the Badger O-line..
What if his teammates are okay with his decision not to play? Wouldn't the argument "what about the team" be thrown out?I think this is lame. I get it, protect the investment, but what happened to the concept of a team? If we were going to a bowl and Stan decided to do this, I expect he would catch hell on this board and deservedly so.

Why would they be hurt? They probably understand his decision, but if it might still hurt them a bit, no matter what they say publicly.
Both sides have merit here. In the end, millions of dollars speak louder than anything else. Why would they be hurt?
Also wouldnt it be selfish of those players to ask Fant to risk millions in a pointless bowl game?
KF gets a million dollar bonus for winning the Pinstripe Bowl. Both sides have merit here. In the end, millions of dollars speak louder than anything else.
But I gotta believe some on the team are miffed that he isn’t playing. It weakens their chance at a victory.
And what if there are incentives in place for the coaching staff? If Fant could help the team reach 9 wins, does that bring more money to the coaches for reaching that plateau?
I’m not saying Fant should play the game, I’m just saying I am willing to bet not everyone is good with his decision.
But it is his decision, and rightfully so.
So if they lose a close one that Fant could have helped them win, KF won’t be happy... no way to prove if they would win with Fant or not, but if it’s a close loss, well...KF gets a million dollar bonus for winning the Pinstripe Bowl.
Why would they be hurt?

Just curious... do you have a link to that part of his contract?KF gets a million dollar bonus for winning the Pinstripe Bowl.

Yes. The difference is Stanley Morgan actually cared about Nebraska and wanted to play here.
Fant litterally only went to Iowa because Mike Riley was an idiot and told him he was going to play him on defense despite the fact that Fant was set on being a TE and hated Hank Hughes.
I agree and I get it. Also to be clear I'm not saying all of his teammates would be okay with it, but if most were (at least the ones who matter) then I really don't see why fans care so much? Both sides have merit here. In the end, millions of dollars speak louder than anything else.

I can agree that it could/would be upsetting. I just find it more selfish if a player got upset because his teammate didn't want to risk their livelihood on a meaningless bowl game.Because the team does matter and I'm sure some feel that teammates should be there for the team for the whole season. I'm not saying they don't understand the decision, but it has to be at least a little upsetting.
Fant was gone to Iowa before Riley was hired IMO. Pelini screwed it up first then Riley's staff probably didn't do the best job trying to mend the fence. That said, the TE they landed should have been a good one.Wrong it was Peelini that wanted for a DE, when Riley came in Fant pretty much made up his mind to attend Ioway.
