I'm proud to say I took the championship last year in a tough league of 12 competitive guys. I've got a lot of question marks going into the season this year and might have to change up my draft strategy. There are automatic picks that everyone on the planet makes...and then there are the 4th round picks where everything starts to vary. Is Welker a 1st round pick with Peyton? Will Mike Wallace be a machine for Miami? Who will Brady throw too? Can Percy Harvin make it thru the season without a headache or a limb falling off? Does Chip Kelley make any Eagles player worth a pick in the top two rounds? Why won't my computer start a new paragraph when I press enter?

Serious question. What is the draw to fantasy sports? Never participated. Don't get it. My perception is that it is a colossal waste of time. Yes there is some irony in the fact that I hang out on a sports message board...

It gives you a reason to watch games you otherwise wouldn't

and actually have some sort of rooting interest.

Its one of those things you can put as much or as little into it as you want. It also gets me to watch the nfl, something I had never really cared about. I do it with a group of college friends list, we've all moved all over the place so this gives us an excuse to keep in touch.

Sneak in a surprise pick by picking a K or D in the first round.

Some of these have been mentioned already. Others are benefits of fantasy, but not what drew me there.
1. Keeps you interested in games/players you may not have otherwise been interested in.
2. Excellent way to learn about players and rules. This was especially true for me with MLB players. After a few years of playing, there weren't any starting MLB players I didn't know, even including numerous relief guys. I have since quit playing fantasy baseball, but it was really cool being able to name which player played which position for any MLB team. Fantasy baseball was the reason.
3. Competition of sports knowledge. The winner always has great bragging rights to his friends or colleagues.
4. Closest you'll ever get to managing a pro team. Tired of Chris Johnson sucking it up? Bench em.
5. I've actually made a few new friends playing fantasy sports.
6. It's fun, and is something to do when bored.
