As most of y'all are Saints fans on here, you are probably familiar with the Drew Brees interception, that was stripped and then taken to the house by Robert Meachem for a touchdown. In fantasy football, the scoring of this can be viewed a couple of different ways.

A. Robert Meachem gets the points for scoring the touchdown on the offensive side of the ball

or

B. The Saints Defense gets the points because, at that point in time when Meachem stipped the ball, the Saints were actually on defense

I am the commissioner of a league in which my game is being affected by this situation and the score is very close with playoff implications on the line. The site I use ruled it one way, then ruled it another way today. I am going to let the site do the scoring and whatever it's final decision is, is final, but I wanted to get y'all's thoughts since this is kind of a weird situtation.

neither the Defense or special teams were on the field

so actually the Saints were on defense when they rcovered the fumble

so by that logic, if an interception puts the skins on offense (saints on defense), does the fumble recovery put the saints back on offense? = offensive td

I would think both would get a TD

If you play in an IDP league and Darren Sharper intercepts a pass and takes it to the house the D gets a TD and Sharper gets a TD.

So Meachem forced fumble which wouldn't count but he did score a TD, so i would say he gets a return TD... because to me it was a fumble RETURN
The Saints D would get a FFumble and a Return TD also...

just my .02

I guess I need to go check my league and see how it was ruled...

at least that's the way it was scored in my league.. but we get points regardless of position.. offensive players get points for tackles. I have Meachem and he got points for the TD.. and the Saints defense also got credit for a TD</p>

I'm commish in my league and haven't thought about that yet. I would say option B. I would rule TD for the Saints D since there was a change of possesion before the TD. Since Meacham got the TD, he would also be awarded 6 points but wouldn't get the yardage associated with it. In our league, if your WR or RB also runs back kicks or punts and scores a TD on a return, they get the TD as well as the D/Special Teams but not the yardage.

there is no such thing as defensive TD, because when they intercept. they immediately become offense

...but I'm biased because a similar situation happened to me a few years ago. Keenan McCardell scored on a fumble return, wasn't given points initially, but was given points a day later. I needed those points to win by less than a TD.

It's an offensive return TD for Meachem. It's a scoring option in Yahoo! leagues, and for this very reason. It doesn't matter if they are "technically" on defense when it happens. It's all the same play. The play started with the Redskins D. That's the only defense that should be credited with points on the play (in this case, an interception). Meachum gets six points for the score, but no points towards yardage.

Google it. ESPN it. Yahoo! it. That scoring option is in place for this very reason. It makes sense. Also consider this, had the Skins taken the interception to the house, would you count those as points allowed by the Saints D? No. Because the defense is on the sidelines.

It's six points for anyone who started Meachem.

in lots of leagues points scored are counted against your defense, no matter who scores them.
