Fantasy Football Question - How many teams is too many?

We currently have a 12 team league - I have toyed with the idea of adding 2 more, but is that just going to be ridiculous? I kind of like the idea of having randoms like Arnaz Battle and James Jones as starters.

The thing that scares me is that with the snake draft, if you are picking first, that means 28 picks until you get another shot - there wont be shat left to choose from at that point.

Thoughts? How many is too many?

and I would prefer to just have an 8 man league. The more teams you have the more likely you are to have a crappy team.

Thank you Captain Obvious.

An 8 team league is a bit of a joke. I like the current 12 team league - and 10 wasnt bad either. It just seems that the people with the top 5 picks always end up in the playoffs - they get a stud RB with their 1st and snag another and a top flight WR/QB in the 2nd and 3rd. If you are in the middle of the draft you basically get 2 second/third tier RB's and maybe a stud WR. I have been told we need to change to an auction - but I like the draft format. I am wondering if having 14 teams would make this more of a problem or less of a problem.

have a 10 team league every year no matter what....we have the draft in New Orleans(its our 4th year this year), and you must be present to have your team. We have about 15-16 in our group from 5 different states to show up to party and draft...buy in is 150.00 and we draft Saturday at noon starting at Molly's. Great time to kick-off the football season, do a draft, and chase ho's around the Quarter...leaving tomorrow...

for the following reasons:

1. Equal scheduling. Most leagues have 13 weeks of regular season, 3 weeks of playoffs, and then not have anything in Week 17 when half the teams rest starters. In a 14 team league, everyone plays everyone else once and only once. So nobody gets a break by not having to play the top team.

2. It also requires a little more skill in my opinion. It's not too hard to draft a potential great team with only 8 teams. You can have a team full of Pro Bowl players. With 14 teams, you've got to work a little bit harder and find the breakout players.

3. Also it requires you to be better to make the playoffs. In a 14-team league, 6 usually make the final tournament. In most seasons, the dividing line is having a winning record or not. If you're >.500 you make the playoffs. If you're < .500, you don't.

How do you have a 10 team league with 15-16 people? Do some guys split the entry cost?

I like 12 team leagues, but you could always split into two 10/12 team leagues if you have enough interest in people playing. We had to do that in one of my leagues and nobody has complained.

but it's also the max i'd play in... 10 is solid, but with 8 the teams are just too loaded.

we do a 12-team league with two divisions. it's a good time...

the extras are there just to party and hopefully grab a team if someone doesnt show...we have had 8 guys that have been in it each year, but have rotated 2 new people in...we do have one team that is split though....Its mostly about partying, strip clubs, and ho's except for that 2 hours on Sat where everyone gets serious

Tried 14 one year and the talent was just stretched too thin. Didn't help that my teams were:
1 QB
3 WR
2 RB
1 TE
1 DEF
2 DEF Player
1 K
7 Bench

You couldn't find any free agents worth half a damn. 12 is tough enough.
