Yeah, I know a lot depends on variables like PPR league or not, flex positions, etc, but what's the gist of your strategy this year for the league you're in?

I won't draft a QB until the mid rounds and I'll load up on RB/WRs instead in the early rounds. The reasoning is that outside of Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady- there is a dropoff in QB production. Cam Newton, Matt Stafford, and Philip Rivers will put up good numbers but IMO it isn't guaranteed like a Rodgers, Brees, or Brady. I tend to go with proven, consistent players for my first 3-4 rounds, then I branch out and gamble a bit.

the RB-RB draft strategy is very out of date. imo there are about 8 "studs" this year, then a drop off. you can move those 8 around depending on your scoring system and personal perference, but they are head and shoulders above the rest imo for a combination of elite production AND a track record of elite production.

they are:
QB - rodgers, brady, brees
RB - foster, rice, mccoy, mjd (assuming he doesn't hold out into the season)
WR - calvin johnson

then you have guys with more questions marks.

newton (how much does he improve? does the league figure out the best way to stop him a bit?)
stafford (injuries, only 1 year of proven production)
gronkowski (how does he handle being the center of every gameplan now?)
forte (injuries, up and down career)
matthews (injuries, his rating is more on potential than production)
andre johnson (injuries)
larry fitz (QB issues, but last year he proved he's still a top WR even with sub-standard QB play)
dmac (injuries)

then you hit another drop off after those 8 imo.

edit: oh yeah, and if you are picking at the end of the 2nd round or in the 3rd round and aj green is available, you'll want to grab him. he's the guy i see right now who could be a top 10 pick next year.

I usually pick up a quality running back in the first round. Someone like Ray Rice is good because he is used in the passing game too(good for PPR). In the second round I'll probably go off of whats on the board. If an elite QB or WR is available I'll go for that. If not, this year I may go for a good TE.Jimmy Graham or Gronkowskiwill probablydouble the average point production for a TE this year.

Auction leagues are a bazillion times better that the snake draft. They separate the men from the boys.

in the draft order. The RB-RB or RB-WR is not out of date. I don't know where/how/why you determined that it is, but you couldn't be more wrong. There are multiple QBs that bunch together in the middle of the pack, a QB in the late 2nd/early 3rd round is a wasted pick IMO- there is little to no separation from QBs 7-15.

The league is getting away from RB that put 100 plus and 2TDs every game. I'll always pick a QB in my PPR league the first round. If a top 3TE is avaiable in 2nd round I might go that route or WR. No RBs till 3rd round. Again, my strategy is to put consistent points every week, and finding consistent RB is harder to identify than just a few years ago.

last year I got lucky drafting Fred Jackson from the Bills, and he was a major points maker. He got hurt, and I picked up Marshawn Lynch and he had a great 2nd half of the season. Also, you can pick Eli or Tony Romo and they will get you a solid 20 points a week. Another sleeper is Steve Smith, Cam Newton hasregeneratedhis career.

When picking WR, I also think of the QB and offense as a whole. A crappy team's go to receiver is still less valuable than a good team's second receiver.

if you feel like you can get 2 RBs who will get a large majority of the carries for their team, then go for it, but don't have the mentality that you have to get a pair of RBs early. the NFL i going away from the RB and towards the passing game. it makes guys like mccoy and rice and foster more valuable, but after about 8 or so RBs are off he board, you get into a lot of question marks.

I'll always take a QB first, especially in a H2H league. Its all about scoring the most points, and QB's score nore points week to week. There are so fewRB's that aren't in a dual type position with another RB, that it makes them hard to recognize.

Last year I took Andre and Calvin Johnson 1st and 2nd pick. There's a bigger drop off from those guys to the next group of WRs than there is from the QBs and RBs.

RBs get hurt. I can find a guy who steps into some carries.

1 RB finished in the top 14 in scoring in our league- 4 in the top 20...If you go RB-RB, you're gonna suck. Lots of value at RB these days in rounds 3-7. Use the 1st 2 rounds for elite players

I usually got rb/wr/rb/wr my first four rounds. Picked up Eli in the fifth round two years in a row and has been solid for me. This year however is Brady or Rodgers is there I'll take either of em and bank on the 30 pts a week.

I was able to sign him up after getting some great advice from the pack (I've never played it). He will pick Darren Sproles first because he likes the Saints and that is his favorite player. That is the way 11-year-olds think. They are loyal.
