What time?

144: (1) Kellen Wolbert (2026 #36) v. (6) Jordyn Raney (2026 #5) was CRAZY!

Back and forth first period ending 9-4 Raney

Wolbert went ahead 10-9 on two take downs and a turn. Raney looked tired. Great scramble and 4 for Raney, then a snap and co behind made it 13-12 Raney. 17-12 Raney with 30 seconds left. Ended up 19-14 Raney. Awesome.

Bo Bassett easy pin
Dreshaun Ross win 3-2 vs. coby Merrill

I’ve watched Ross and Coby wrestle 3 times now and I don’t remember Coby attempting anything. I have come away from all three matches completely underwhelmed by the matchup as a whole. I understand the hesitancy from both… but someone’s got to try something.

There was too much action for me to keep track of the score: Wolbert vs Raney

I had whiplash going from watching the Raney-Wolbert match to the Merrill-Ross match. Some thoughts on both.

Raney is incredibly impressive and seems like he would have won this match handily in folkstyle. Wolbert’s development has been great but throughout the tournament, nearly all of his points came on freestyle-specific moves. Needless to say I’m interested to see if he’s equally developed his folkstyle game, but time will tell! One thing I can tell for sure is that he’s a dog on the mat.

I was surprised that Ross weighed less than previous tournaments because I thought this was the biggest he’s looked. While it was an incredibly boring match, the only time Merrill had a shot at scoring was on re-attacks so I understand Ross’s shot hesitancy. I agree with others that he definitely seems to have the frame to bulk up once he’s 100% focuses on wrestling . Even though his matches with Merrill have been close, he seems to have separated himself from the Merrill Mocco group and his potential is through the roof!

Once he gets on campus and has proper nutrition, I’ll bet we see it. I can’t imagine what it would take for guys that size doing something active everyday to put on a bunch of weight. Thousands and thousands of good calories.
He does look like a hard gainer in body type. But, my concern comes from his transformation. He looked more muscular and weighed less.

So, he’s either working out and eating incorrectly, or he’s on a cut regimen?

Either way, I thought he looked great and performed very well! If he can get to the 250 range, he’s an immediate problem for anybody!

Here’s the replay

I enjoyed watching Fargo, Rocklin has jumped levels and is becoming highly rated. I think I heard Raney is recovering from ACL repair and hasn't wrestled for a while but still won the toughest weight in the tournament. Wolbert wrestled good and battled Raney tough in the finals. Ross is a top prospect wrestled good but needs to get bigger. His win against Merrill was unbelievably thin. Merrill is focused on defense and hard to penetrate, but I would have liked him to use his speed to get a takedown. I am glad he is our future HWT. Our future looks great.

Watched a bit. Jordyn and Kellen are exciting wrestlers. Love to see the pace pushed like that. Ross is a massive human. He will be a problem. Coby is the most ripped high schooler I’ve ever seen and it makes me suspicious lol but not my place to investigate.

Jordyn went up to 144 for greco and he ran into an opponent that was able when he was on his stomach to pick him off the mat and throw him. Raney was outsized and overpowered. That opponent won by decision in the finals. Right now, I would say Jordyn is a 141 and not a 149. This next year I really look for our 2025 class develop 125 Ramirez, 141 Vega, 157 Robideau, 165 Routledge, 165 Lockett and 197 Goff. The 2026 class may be better ( 125 Zinkin, 133 Raney, 141, Forrest, 141 Wolbert, 149 Raney, and Ross HWT) and we get to see their senior years in high school in lots of big tournaments. These recruiting classes likely together are our 2 best back-to-back recruiting seasons maybe ever. I hope the results over the next 4 to 6 years exceed these ratings! If so we could get 35.

The thing that impressed me most about Ross vs Merrill is that Coby couldnt push him around and he was trying like hell. Against Mocco that was the difference, just overpowering him and pushing him to the edge. Dreshaun was strong enough even with the weight difference to hold center. Just an athlete!

He's just a huge dude. 6'4" in 2023, maybe taller now! His post match interview was great too. He's so excited to come here and wrestle for David. Love seeing that kind of energy again.

Ross said in post match interview 250 is the target weight. kid will be 265 in 2yrs easy peasy

I don't want to offend anybody and I'm sorry if I do but, I don't see anything entertaining in this match. If I wanted to watch wrestlers push each other around and score on push-outs I'd be an Iowa fan or maybe Sumo. If there was no push-out score in freestyle someone would have to score with a true wrestling move. Please, no push-out in College wrestling

I like the idea of a push out point only because it would help discourage some of the BS edge wrestling some guys do. Hate it when a guy just parks it at the edge of the mat before he really starts wrestling, and then the moment it looks like things aren’t going his way he dips out of bounds. To me it’s the wrestling equivalent of playing tag with the kid who would always yell for timeout right before he got tagged.

I’d also settle for refs more aggressively calling stalling/fleeing the mat.
