In SEC games, Renardo Sidney is tied with Trey Thompkins and Jamychael Green for 5th in rebounding.

Imagine if he worked his *** off.

his goal for next season, assuming he comes back, is to be in the best shape of his life. Hopefully him actually playing made him realize what is needed.

He just needs to get his *** in shape come back to school and use that talent to get himself a first round pick and MSU an SEC Title...
If the RSS and Bost return, then next year's team could seriously make a run in the NCAAT.

rebounding is one aspect where its less about talent and mostly about effort and energy, the thing Sidney gets hounded for.

That's what I really found interesting.

With his big body he could be leading the SEC in boards... Either he is a little lazy or really winded at times. I doubt he has had much coaching on rebounding before he got to STATE. I think he has improved vastly as this season has progressed.

You could tell him he wasn't working hard enough, but when he's working harder than he ever has (still not saying much), he doesn't believe it. You can see now that he's realizing what it's gonna take. Hopefully we have him back and get the full production out of him next year.

I think it's almost all laziness from fatigue rather than attitude at this point, evidenced by the fact that he shows flashes of tremendous effort rebounding now, while in January he would start running back when the OTHER team put a shot up. The NBA scouts are going to tell him to go back to school for one more year and lose the fifty pounds, and if he heeds that advice, I strongly believe he'll average a double double in points and boards next year. As for his defense, I don't think it will improve before his career with us is over due to lack of teaching on fundamentals in high school/AAU and no help when he got here, but hopefully we'll be able to mask it better next year with Moultrie moving into the center role defensively and taking some of the responsibility off him.

May I also add that it's heartening to see an intelligent and objective discussion on Sidney for once? I'm hard-pressed to remember another player who was dismissed as worthless and a waste of time while giving his team 14 points and 8 boards per game, despite the obvious flaws, as much as Sidney is on here.

I agree 100%. For all the stuff said about him on here, I wouldn't want to play against him. How many turnovers did the Arkansas center have last night when he tried to move that mountain? Now that he knows what it takes, hopefully he'll come back next season, in shape, with Moultrie and Bost et. al., be a major contributor on a NCAAT team, get drafted by the NBA and live happily ever after.

he would be the National Player of the Year.

I can't think of another player with his size, touch, and athletic ability. He is built like Cousins, but he can jump. He should be averaging 20 and 10.

as he does pull down 2 or 3 per game, but as with all the other stats we've discussed, you have to wonder just how many he'd have if he would/could put full effort into it.
