Ricky Blanton NOT
Another screw job by the NCAA.
Hard to beat any team 4 times in the same season
Another FF robbery for UK and potential NC
Chris Jackson was fun to watch when they weren’t playing us.
Chris Jackson maybe Durand just cuz the nameJackson was ridiculous in college. Probably one of the top 5-6 I have ever seen play.
Piece of crap person from what I have heard but crazy good basketball player in college.
I've never gotten the Pete Maravich thing. He plays ball and takes shots the quality of Lamelo Ball.
The NCAA put 75% three out of the four total SEC teams in the same region."Screw Job"? Seriously? So you think the NCAA stuck an 11 seed on the opposite side of our regional bracket with the foreknowledge that said team would defy all odds and reach the elite 8 to unseat us?
You know what it's normally called when a 1 seed only has to beat an 11 seed to reach the Final Four? An extremely lucky break. Only UK fans would call it a screw job. Man, the paranoia in our fan base is something to behold.

Do honestly think they would ever do the ACC like that? NO
Because they want an ACC team to win it every year.
Why didn’t they put one SEC team in each region?
Mine is Clarence "HAIL" Caesar.
This by about 1000X. Maravich was unreal as a college player.Maravich for sure. Shaq was limited by Dale Brown's coaching.
When the bracket came out a lot of people started blaming C.M. Newton. We had to play Davidson, Western Kentucky which was a good team at the time, Alabama and LSU. Kenny Walker remarked that the Western game was really tough and they were taking a lot of cheap shots underneath. They put 3 out of the four SEC NCAA tournament teams in the same region. I think they screwed the SEC and UK.
Ricky Blanton reminded me of a lumberjack. Did nothing but hack and push underneath while he was at LSU. That was probably his role knowing Dale Brown.I hate Ricky Blanton..can still picture him with his arms on the air.
I really don’t think that was a screw job though. We were the #1 seed and they were the #11 seed. They had to beat the 6, 3 and 2 seed to get to us.
That I wasnt that impressed. My apologies for the visualization for the reason behind my opinion. So what’s the point you’re trying to make with the video?
We were sent out West in 1985 so apparently, geography didn't matter then. As for LSU, if you recall, they are rated Top Ten preseason and underachieved all season until the tournament, so they weren't really average. John Williams was on that team and was a highly coveted recruit along with a really good guard whose named I can't recall.Actually the NCAA used to do that sort of thing far more often in the 80s, because they tried harder back then to keep teams in their geographic region's regional. The reason three SEC teams were in the Southeast Regional that year is because it was the SOUTHEAST Regional. Kinda makes sense, doesn't it?
But, fwiw, not long after that, the NCAA changed the rules where they stopped being so concerned with regional connection to prevent teams from the same conference from meeting before the Elite 8.
That is the real reason that happened. Contrary to paranoid UK lore, it was NOT part of some evil conspiracy to take UK down by pitting us against an 11 seed we'd already beaten three times that season. I'm pretty sure the NCAA, like all of us, had no idea that mediocre LSU team would suddenly get red hot and go on that run when the brackets were announced.

DUDE, do you even realize that LSU got to play their first two games at home! You totally missed the point that LSU was a top team at preseason. Like I said, they underachieved but are loaded with talent. Tell me, how many teams got to play the first two games on their home court in the NCAA? Did you even watch basketball back then?Dude. Once again. They were an 11 SEED that finished with 12 losses.
Like I said before, do you know what everyone else in America calls it when a 1 seed merely has to beat an 11 seed in the Elite 8 to reach the Final Four? An EXTREMELY lucky break.
Only in Kentucky could fans contort that into a paranoid conspiracy theory where the NCAA supposedly conspired to plant in our regions the one and only 11 seed they knew would beat us, because we'd already beaten them three times that season. LOL.
I don’t think the guy knows his hole from an a$$ in the ground :chairshot:DUDE, do you even realize that LSU got to play their first two games at home! Right, and I didn't see one person on the board that said it was some sort of conspiracy theory. However, having three SEC teams in one bracket is going to raise a lot of eyebrows. After that happened I recall a lot of fans really blaming C.M. Newton, however, not sure what he could have done to prevent it.I don’t think the guy knows his hole from an a$$ in the ground :chairshot:

Go back and look at the preseason rankings; it wasn't BS. They were highly rated and totally underachieved until the tournament. Both Williams and Derrick Taylor were considered to be top prospects but it never transpired until the tournament. And, I never said they put us in that bracket as part of a devious plan, but if you go back and look, we were up against a good Western team in the second round, then Alabama. Anytime a conference has three teams in one bracket it's going to raise some eyebrows.Yes, I do know they played their first two games on their home court. Which was unfair ********. But that sort of thing happened frequently back in those days.
And I don't know where you're seeing this "loaded with talent" BS on that LSU squad. They had one, and ONLY one legitimate NBA caliber talent on that team (John Williams), they started at CENTER a 6'6" white guy who couldn't jump at all (Blanton), and the rest of the roster was rather non-descript. That's a mighty liberal definition of "loaded" you're working with there.
They were a mediocre 11 seed 12 loss team that just got hot at the right time, stop pretending they were something different. Honestly, do you seriously think the NCAA put that 11 seed on the opposite side of our region's bracket as part of a devious plan to bring us down in the Elite 8?
