I prefer the 80's to today. Back in the 80's films were about telling a good story and entertaining. Today it's shoving Hollywood's politics down your throat or watching comic book movies.I'm a huge movie buff and the 80s is probably my least favorite decade for films other than the 10s or 20s.
One genre that flourished in the 80s is horror.
Interesting.
I may agree that few films were made but plenty of great comedies, blockbusters, and as you said, horror flicks from the 80s.
No nostalgia from you?

The Man Show got that right about it being the greatest moment in cinematic history. Why do I get the feeling that a bunch of dudes watched Phoebe Cates coming out of the pool multiple times.![]()
That's the joke. Ratt is such a "loser" he put on the wrong album.I love Fast Times but get your facts right. You can't tell me that when it comes to making out to put on side 2 of Led Zeppelin 4 and then play a song of Physical Graffiti. That's just sloppy.
Just compare the best picture winners then and now. The winners today are mostly preach fests. They are not nearly as entertaining as what came before. The story seems less important than the message. Political messages were present in the 80's and before but they weren't so blatant. Even the comic book movies are loaded with politics like Black Panther for example. How so on the politics? I'm genuinely interested. There motive is selling tickets but some people see politics in everything so I would like to know what you see?
This movie and Buckaroo Bonzai are why the 80s ruled - it gave us weird-*** gems like these that - for a variety of reasons - would never be made today.Repo Man
"Repo Man got all night, EVERY night! That's why every repo man I ever knew worth his salt did speed."
"Look at those @ssholes, ordinary f***ing people..., I hate 'em"
You don't think that's to sell tickets though? Like give audiences what they want to see? Maybe the movies of the 80's just had politics you like and movies now have politics you don't like? Have you ever thought that movies of the past showed norms that maybe everyone doesn't align with and now there are more options for more different types of fans.Just compare the best picture winners then and now. Hollywood has always been left leaning and that doesn't bother me. What has changed IMO is that the political message in movies is now more important than telling a good story. Today's Academy award winners are nowhere near as good as those from 15-30 years ago.You don't think that's to sell tickets though? Like give audiences what they want to see? Caddy shack is the best. Animal House pretty strong as well. Dark horse is Weird Science.
It was released in the summer of '78, a few months before Up In Smoke. I remember watching both freshman year. Togas were big for Halloween that year.Animal House was in the late 70s, think 1978, because I saw it just before starting at UK.

The barber shops scenes alone make it a classic
