I played NBA JAM T.E. over the weekend and the old-school rosters got me thinking of what was my favorite lineup from that era? Since I was never a MJ fan it was easy for me to rule out the Bulls, but since it is probably the team most people would say, my question is regarding the other 29 teams in the league back then? The Boston Celtics have been my favorite NBA team since the 1980's, but their early 1990's rosters were never very good outside Larry Legend and he retired in 1992.

For me, it has to be the 1992-1993 Phoenix Suns - Sir Charles Barkley, Kevin Johnson, Thunder Dan Majerle, Danny Manning, Wayman Tisdale, and Danny Ainge, among others. That team was super-fun to watch and the 1993 NBA finals between the Suns and Bulls was an epic match-up.

Runner-Up would have to be a tie between the '93-'94 Orlando Magic with Shaq, Penny, Nick Anderson, and Scott Skiles, and the '92-'93 Charlotte Hornets with Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, Mugsy Bogues, Dell Curry, and Kendall Gill.

I was a fan of the Celtics in the late 90's because 1/3rd of the prayer was UK and Pitino was the coach. Hated Jordan and the Bulls, and still do. I never supported non UK guys much even at 10.

Honorable mention to the Lakers. Van Exel, Ceballos, Jones, Vlade, Campbell (and Magic back for the first year I really paid attention).

They seemed to be one of the teams always on TV, and I hated the Bulls because everyone liked them and Jordan went to Carolina, so the gold jerseys and Van Exel hooked me. He was a lefty, wore the number I wore in little league, played the same position--first pro I pretended to be other than trying to copy the Rex 3 falling out of bounds.

Larry Bird still had gas remaining in the tank in '92 before retiring, going off for a 49-point triple-double.

If I'm not mistaken, he also was top scorer for one game during the '92 Olympics in Barcelona.

The thing about the NBA regular season is a lot of the games really suck, but every now and then you'll get something like this one. I want to say it was 154-149 in double overtime. I know they scored more than 300 combined points. Bird hit the crazy spinning three to send the game to overtime and then Kevin Gamble hit a shot at the buzzer to put it into the next overtime.

BBdK's boy Drexler fouled out in double overtime and got a standing ovation from the crowd at Boston Garden. For a visiting player. In a regular season game. Really showcased everything that was good and bad about those Blazer teams. So explosive and talented, but always melted down in the clutch - everybody on the team did.

If you guys have time to kill this weekend, check this out.

Here's Run TMC minus the M, taking on the Coleman/Petrovic Nets. Spoiler: 300 combined points in this one.
