I haven't seen a new horror film worth a crap in years. I did, however, enjoy The Strangers.

The Cabin In The Woods had been on Netflix for a long time. I guess they finally had to take it down. The Netflix app sucks in trying to see what they offer. I don't know why they can't set it up to show all the movies that are available. They should have it to where you pick the genre first without piling all the different genres on the screen at once. Plus I hate how it adds movies and says "Because you watched __________."

It very well could be there. I'm not good with Netflix, I just use my friends account from time to time. But all I could find were about 100-150 horror movies and that was in the SPECIFIC Horror genre (not the mainscreen Horror slider bar).

There are some new horror channels out there and I think even a $10/month movie service. But the best bet still seems to be torrenting. Grab a 2-3 TB drive and just load it up.

<----- Old school. Either George Romero's zombies or Tobe Hooper's Leatherface. Both were indie productions. Many Austin folks and UT alumni played in Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Watched the OG Evil Dead last night again....that movie was ahead of it's time with gore. Some great stuff even if it is outdated.

NC-17 rating was well deserved.

You were like me when I saw The Exorcist at age 12. FORGET being 'grown up', there was a night lite next to my bed the rest of the year!

My bros and I loved Saturday night horror movies like Drac, Werewolf, Mummy, etc....Exorcist came out when I was about 13. Mom told me I was not allowed to see it because it was sacreligious. When I was sixteen, some friends and I decided to tell our moms we were working late one night....and went off to the drive-in.....to see the Exorcist. Afterwards I'm so scared, looked in my closet before going to bed. Remember thinking I should have done what mom said.....The Exorcist was to horror movies what Alice Cooper was for shock-rock.

My uncle took me because nobody else in my family wanted to see it besides him and he didn't want to go by himself. My family gave me a hard time when I broke out the night light afterwards...but later they said "Man, that must had been a really scary movie if you and Wallace (my uncle) needed a light on during the night afterwards" (Being an adult, he left his TV on at night instead of using a night light like me. My aunt Judy to this day has never watched that movie...and I don't blame her)

House of the Devil, You're Next, and the director tandem of Ti West and Adam Winguard is pretty damn good right now. Real throw-back style movies. Back to the basics. Gore, great sound, directing, and cinematography. His concepts and story are never ground breaking (although a few are close), but they are solid, satisfying horror movies. And that's harder and harder to come by these days with the horror genre.

I loved the style of House of the Devil, but it's hellaciously slow-moving. I liked The Innkeepers much better.

I also liked You're Next a whole lot. There are a ton of references in there to the Australian movie Fortress, which ran relentlessly on HBO in the '80s. It used to freak me out as a kid.

The Austrian film Goodnight Mommy that's just out is very good. It isn't quite as intense as It Follows, but the way the director uses sound and light and suggestion is really clever. Highly recommended if you can find it.
