Also liked what I heard yesterday on the radio from Chris Stapleton, who's written a bunch for other artists, but it just now getting recognized as an artist himself. Lexington native, IIRC.

And though I don't think of them as a country band, they did open up for Eric Church at Rupp last week, but I absolutely love The Lone Bellow.

Very good, very underrated band. I still don't know how they've not gained traction. Shows how lost country music really is. Too busy playing 1000's of songs about fireball and sundresses to notice real talent.

I like Band of Heathens.

I'd add Shovels and Rope, and John Brannen, although both are more folk/roots rock than country. But they show up on alt country more than rock.
