There are quite a few large potato farms in PA.

Before food storage and shipping became modernized, regional brands were needed to sell a fresh product. A lot of those companies went under as larger ones branched out to their area. For whatever reason, a lot of PAs have survived and taken large market shares.
A colleague once told me that the combo of Irish immigration and soil conditions along the Mason-Dixon was the basis of the chip industry in PA.

Only $269 for 4 tins on Amazon.
Used to have the big cans delivered to the house. If I was home alone, I put a big dent in the contents,

When I was a kid they used to have Senft potato chips. I thought they were the best by far. I wonder whatever happened to them.

Also as a kid we had Bon Ton potato chips delivered to our house. I don't recall them being anything special but it was a good day when the delivery truck came.

I remember Senft's. They apparently went out of business per the following article:

The old factory looks like it could have doubled as a firehouse. That would have been very handy dealing with grease fires.

This makes me wonder about the other 60%.
INGREDIENTS: DRIED POTATOES, VEGETABLE OIL (CORN, COTTONSEED, HIGH OLEIC SOYBEAN, AND/OR SUNFLOWER OIL), DEGERMINATED YELLOW CORN FLOUR, CORNSTARCH, RICE FLOUR, MALTODEXTRIN, MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, SALT, WHEAT STARCH.

That Pizza seasoning they concocted could make a shoe sole edible though.

Publix has buffalo chicken dip flavored kettle chips that are pretty awesome right now. Spicey AF.

The best French fries I’ve ever had were from a Persian restaurant near the train station in Munich.
No surprise. In Europe and parts of Asia, the train is a very common means of transport, so food vendors would likely have their locations nearby train stations to take advantage of the foot traffic.

I've always been a wise guy but you could rarely find them in Colorado where we lived for 40 or so years. When my in laws would visit they would bring me a case of wise chips and some Isaly's chipped ham. After traveling cross country, those bags of chips would expand to almost bursting by the time they arrived. I have learned that wise chips for the most part are from one of the Carolinas

Not joking about this....

The best potato chips I ever ate were freshly fried, lightly salted with rock salt and masala
In a train station somewhere in Southern India.

I immediately make my first cut using the proposition that any "flavored" or "wavy" chip is not a potato chip, it is just a way to deliver an artificial flavoring or dip using a chip.

I will admit that the chips of today are not as good as what we had 40 years ago, or even 20 years ago. Charles Chips were outstanding, delivered in that can as fresh and tasty as could be.

Utz have always been solid to outstanding. Then you have Gibbles, Middlesworth and all the copycats. Lays, any store brand, Herr's, and Diffenbachs are mediocre at best.

I forgot to mention that before rampant quality control measures, brought in around 1980, you would get your Charles or Utz chips and pretzels and open them up to see how many were cooked brown or dark brown. Those chips always tasted better to me and I would dig thru the bag or can to get them first. Today a few companies seem to have realized what we are missing. I know Hammonds Pretzels are selling their hard pretzels in regular and "dark" cooked bags. The dark ones are outstanding. I wish that Utz would wake up and give us dark chips as an option. I know I would buy them. I am not supposed to eat the things, but what a way to go that would be with an icy bottled coke from Mexico.

Kettle Brand Krinkle Cut are the best...if you can find then. I can find the Black Pepper ones but the plain krinkle are the best.

I will also say that the Wegman's Wavy Chips are very good...and VERY affordable. They're my go-to for the house and tailgates
