They are there for bench insurance. When he signs them early on, they are a guy that coaching staff wants and expects to be a part of the rotation. None of the other aforementioned players were in the rotation, but I suspect Platek will be by his sophomore year. And what does that mean? Probably that UNC's talent level won't be up to the normal standards. But hey, maybe Platek will prove us all wrong and drop 30 on Duke.
