I agree with everyone that believes it's not a lock for UNC to be in the Final Four. I mean, they were very dangerous last season...but their ability to close games was a cancer to them. Sure, being another year older with more experience could certainly help in that department...but that's not a guarantee. Mental toughness just doesn't pop up magically. It comes from having success that breeds confidence. If the Heels start off the season and are able to have some success by holding on to late leads, or making comebacks...then it would do a world of good to their confidence. But if early in the season they let a game or 2 slip away from them...then that old feeling of self-destruction could rear it's ugly head again.
And Marcus Paige...if he plays more like last year (injury or not) than in the previous season then their expectations go down considerably. Also, if Berry is the pg that Gary-7 (and others) predict...then what happens if Paige doesn't have the ball in his hands as much? Is he as effective? Can he adapt to playing well without having the ball in his hands as much? I don't know, maybe, maybe not.
And Kennedy Meeks...he has finally slimmed down to a sleek player. Surely his stamina will be improved dramatically, but as much as many at THR would like to think...I seriously doubt some newfound explosiveness (think his problem is the lack of fast twitch muscles). Also, will he be as effective down low blocking out and pushing players around without that heft he once had? He used that big butt pretty well before.
So, I do think they have some questions that will need to be answered. They will be good, and very dangerous (just like last year), but the verdict is out on how good and how dangerous.
Of course all bets are off if Luke Maye goes gangsta...then they'll be unstoppable.
