My wife was a SPED teacher for the last 9 years (in Texas) and she talked about this exact scenario. She said there will be alot of lawsuits from parents asking for compensatory services. It's one of the reasons she left at the end of the year and is done with teaching.

I’m not sure how money is going to fix anything, but go ahead. There’s no excuse for not providing services. I saw all of our spec. ed teachers going waaaaay beyond even what the regular classroom teachers did. It starts with the principal(s) making sure everyone is accountable. That includes gifted services too.

Hope people file an endless line of lawsuits over what happened to kids in this state. In every one of them, they should make the kea a defendant too.

You do realize that the individual teachers and principals won't have to pay? So all the money won comes from the public including other parents in the same situation.

Of course I realize that. Unfortunately it's the only language they speak and this is the only way to prevent this disaster going forward.

Yes money won't heal the past, but its the only thing that hurts and hopefully will prevent this from happening again.
Then they'll just raise our property taxes without our say. They did it for no reason before, they definitely do it if this happened

They can say the money will be used to provide private education for the children that need it, until they catch up or the parents feel thier child or children are where they need to be.
I have know idea if my child has learned anything in the last year from public school, but I tried to teach stuff at home she could use through life. Like how to throw your laundry in the washer and add tide pod hit start, wow ur doing laundry now. Another idea was to teach her how to cook sum basic teenager survival food. Bought power xl air fryer microwave now she knows how to cook for herself alittle. I just tried to make the best for her ***** situation atleast she still had cheerleading most of the time or it would've worried me alot more bout her mental health cause that's not really talked bout. They ****** these kids up.

There won't be any massive money awards on a case like this. Especially if any liability can be spread out to the kea which is unlikely. Will be mostly attorneys fees. Raising taxes to pay for the lost year that was supposedly not lost will be incredibly politically unpopular. It might happen but would be tough.

These people only know money and votes and they will be on the wrong side of all this.

Haven’t you heard? Money fixes everything. Got a problem? Throw more money at it. That’s the KEA way!

It doesn’t start with the principal(s). It starts with the governor who locked schools down. It starts with the KEA which is rotten to the effin’ core. It starts with the FCPS school board that effed things up even worse. Then...and only then...does it trickle down to the principal(s) making sure everyone is accountable once they were forced into an NTI situation that was both avoidable and unsubstantiated.

It’s rather simple...

Kids should have been in school in person.

Actually most of it will come from their Educators Legal Liability insurance which every school district in Kentucky has. Fayette County used to have a $25K deductible so any large awards will be covered.

This post is 1000% accurate. The public should be demanding resignations from those in leadership positions. The damage done to kids has not even really begun to reveal itself.

BTW kids, we also took trillions as well as your education from you. Good luck!

Fayette County Public Schools was just awarded $11 million in Cares Act money from the federal government. Yet, the board is of course asking to raise our property taxes due to money issues. You can see how much your county is getting here:

Didn't they also get millions when this all started for the sole purpose of reopening schools?

If there was any justice, there would be a federal investigation into what happened to that money. If you mismanage or even commingle federal grant funds there can be hell to pay

This. This. This. Those in positions of leadership who decided to cowtow to the mob and act out of cowardice and self preservation should be held accountable. What this country just went through over a bunch of damn nonsense is absolutely despicable. I realize this is a school specific thread, and while I don't have kids, O can't imagine what parents had to deal with during this bs. The lockdown certainly affected my mental health, I've had to start taking antidepressants because of all this. Kids aren't meant to be locked up and not socialized, especially over the stupidity of Covid. We can start by holding Beshear accountable and voting his *** out in a landslide. If Bevin hadn't been so irascible we wouldn't even be having that convo.

Interesting site that shows how much money is being handed out. Haven’t been able yet to find out exactly how much Fayette County has received and how much spent. Kentucky received:
Education Stabilization Fund (ESF)
Total of ESF awarded
$2,005,251,385.00
Total of ESF spent
$449,153,669.80

Don't count on it.

And, can I just add, keep up the good work. That cesspool of waste and mismanagement needs more folks holding their feet to the fire. If I told you how much money is wasted on superfluous technology (1000's of surface Pros for people that don't have a legitimate need for them for instance) you would no doubt have a f***ing stroke.

Not surprised. Hopefully the new Superintendent comes on and cleans up the disaster of administration and school board for Fayette County Schools. Covid brought to the surface so many issues that have always been there.

Imo the most egregious part of the initial funding is it was passed for the sole purpose of getting kids back in school.

Schools took it but never sent the kids back. So that money needs a very thorough accounting including to see if any needs returned.

When you accept federal funds earmarked for specific purpose, they must be spent for that purpose.
