in the hunt on any of the high profile kids and historically USM always was a factor on a few. The guy appears to be a pretty good coach but he clearly isn't getting involved in the pissing match between Nutt and Mullen. Is USM becoming irrelevant? I know we have to play them in a few years (which I hate) since I endured several seasons that they ruined when they signed every 17ing outlaw they could and gave everybody a fight every time they stepped on the field. The silence is deafing from Hattiesburg.

mouth when we suit up against them in a couple of years, man I hate that **** because they were the absoulute worst winners or losers I ever encounted, LSU ain't got **** on them when they were winning against quality competition in the 70's and 80's. Polymer science, they all bought into that in my day by wearing Black and Gold polyester to games in September, they were some sweaty folks and they would take a swing at you after a good whiskey drink. Prepare yourselves!

They have never been relevant and never will be. Those bitches will act like its their super bowl when they play us. I doubt we even have a full house.

USM only signs good players when they can't get in elsewhere or will not qualify. Go look at that 2007 or 2008 class that was supposed to be really good - how many of those guys ever made it to campus? Not many.

they were wearing those butt ugly yellow polyester shirts with the collars the size of flags flopping in the windevery time they stood up andcheer. It was funny as hell. I was passing through Hattiesburg two years ago the Saturday State was playing GA Tech in Atlanta. I stopped at the McDonald's to get something to eat. I was wearing a Miss State T-Shirt. The place was loaded with USM fans. No they did not have those polyester shirts any more but they were wearing USM T-Shirts. They were still butt ugly yellow. One of the guys in the restaurant said something smart to me about my shirt and bragged how they always go to a bowl game and we do not. I said to him yeah even though we don't go to a bowl game every year we still get as many fans to one as they do. I then commence to ordering my food and went on about my business. Personally I can't wait to play those bastards. Maybe our programme will be in good shape and we will beat that *** and maybe they will shut up about us being scared to play them.

If you're not in the BCS, you're going to get left out. As we saw this very summer, the landscape of college football is very unstable. If you're not in the SEC, PAC-10, Big 10, or ACC you aren't safe as far as competing for the National Championship- from a conference persepctive, not necessarily a MSU perpective. Would it really shock anybody if those four conferences broke away and separated themselves from the rest of college football? It's almost that way now.

My point is this- if you're a college football recruit, where exposure is everything, and you live in Mississippi with three D-I schools, and two of them are BCS schools, you're going to choose one of the two schools that's going to be in the BCS league. That's why USM is scrambling to get into the Big East. But even if they do, who knows if that will be a BCS conference anymore? And C-USA sure won't be as it is.

The big three schools were on more equal footing in the late 90's than they are now. I remember USM beating people like Georgia in 1996. Of course, they beat Nebraska and Alabama a few years ago as well. So, yeah they could have competed in the SEC. They used to get a lot of players in south Mississippi, Louisiana, Southern Alabama, and the panhandle of Florida. What has happened now is those players have more options- like South Florida, Central Florida, and even the Sun Belt schools like Troy, and Lousiana-Monore are all taking a lot of the players that they used to get. MSU and Ole Miss are also recruting the state much better than ever and are taking guys like Christian Holmes- a guy that they probably would have gotten 12 years ago. So, gradually over time, they have slowly gone down.

And now, to top it off, they have a coach that really hasn't impressed me all that much. At least with Jeff Bower, his name would come up on occasion for a vacant coaching position. Does anyone really see that happening with Fedora? I think he will probably end up getting fired before long and end up as an OC somewhere.

As far as MSU playing them? I'm honestly not that worried about them beating us. OK, yeah, they beat us in 1980 and 1981. Big deal. We also beat them with Rockey Felker as our coach with a 5-6 caliber team and that was when they had Brett Favre as their QB. And that included one time in Hattiesburg to. I'm sure that they treated it like their Super Bowl then as well. Now, flash forward to the present day, our current DC was able to coach up a defense with Sun Belt players to beat them. What do you think he's going to do with SEC caliber players against them? On top of that, we were able to beat the very same Sun Belt team on the road and won pretty comfortably. And no, I don't think it's going to be a 56-0 beat down either, but I don't see why we shouldn't win. The last MSU football team that they were able to beat was the Tech and 10 team that couldn't beat Tulane. People are acting like other teams don't ever get up for us when we play them.

You stopped at McDonald's when there was a Ward's nearby? Talk about casting stones in a glass house.

(BTW, doesn't MSU wear black jerseys on occasion now?)

Big 12(Texas) don't really think you can exclude them from the list. Add ND, because, if they were to get anywhere near good, they have a chance to get in the Championship Game.

I do think with the recent ESPN package, and being on TV about every week, and just generally the publicity of the SEC, now clearly separates MSU and OM from USM.
In the past not quite as much. I will say that USM has done quite a bit with, much less.

because that confence is really on shaky ground. But, I do agree about Texas. I think that they eventually end up in the PAC-10.

I aslo see what you are saying about ND, but I think it's a matter of time before someone in the BCS grows a set and tells them "You want to play for a NC? You have to join a conference. Or enjoy the same fate as Army and Navy."

Did the USM guy get fired for talking to a customer like that?
