Feeto: I enjoy your upset predictions and look forward to them every Friday/ You have the nerve to do the upset predictions which most people wouldn't touch. Kudos to you for stepping up
Well, that’s Massey ratings. But for the first week of the playoffs, I wrote down the spreads of about 20 games per calpreps and they were remarkably close. I could report back on Monday; the paper is sitting on my desk.
Too many guys going both ways for Phillips same as Hillcrest. Its an attrition thing. Rita and MC will walk away in the end by at least 2 scores.
Is there really an upset in 1A North 44-0 or 2A North 43-1 brackets? A lot of people would think Central over Fieldcrest is one...
Paxton over Princeton would be 3A upset...Wilmo over Byron is a seed upset...
I don’t know but last year they were hitting at an 80% clip by the time playoffs came around. I trust Massey’s numbers better than cal preps. dweise report the numbers this week, because I, like you, have found them to be pretty reliable.

not exactly “remarkably close” or whatever I claimed but I guess still closer than I thought they’d be.
That’s really close for anyone that dabbles in projections. And it shows why I like Massey a touch more. Somewhere in their algo they governor a blow out line. Like, they wouldn’t of had Rita -48, JCA -53, MC -44, and LWE -45. MC is the only one that covered that one. Rita was +34 on Massey first round that ended at 35.
Some people just might not like that a computer can be so predictive of a chaotic (anything can happen) event. But it seems you and I get it, the computer is going to be close but we also understand, they still have to play the game.
