I looked long and hard at this weeks schedule trying to figure out which team to put my hex (3 -0 on the season) on. I looked at games way up north, and out in the far reaches of suburbia, but the one I decided upon is right in my backyard. This weeks upset is the 2 -1 and unranked Redhawks of Marist over the #15 ranked and last years state finalist Crusaders of Br. Rice. I think we all know that this game is going to come down to 2 things.....Turnovers & coaching. The edge goes to Marist on both fronts. Rice has been turning the ball over like Jay Cutler in the redzone. The Marist D-line will reek havoc all night disturbing the running and passing game. I'm predicting 4 turnovers going to the Redhawks tonight. As for the coaching battle, I give the edge to Coach Dawczak. We've seen Coach Badke struggle in a lot of "Big Games" with the play calling. Should be a great game tonight, final score.........Marist 35 - Rice 27. That's my upset for this week. What are your thoughts, and who is your upset?

C'mon Feeto. Everyone knows this is a toss up! For it to be a true upset, imagine reading the paper the next day and seeing the scores. Your reaction would need to be "Wow. I didn't see that coming...". No one would be surprised if Marist wins.

Does Coach Badke call the plays? What big game plays are you referencing? Maybe he needs a Nagy 'Be You' reminder on his call sheet.

Only Feeto could call out a coach and give the edge to the other despite beating his team twice last season.

He sure had a horrible game in the loss last Thanksgiving weekend. Kept a kid in the game who was clearly hurt. I assume the backup was better than a 1 legged qb.

Ah
Clementine's Pub on Schmidt & Boughton... Haven't been there but I been seeing it all my life and recently figured with all these greys it may be time
I’ve driven by that joint a million times and never stopped in. Maybe today is the day.

When is kickoff?

Yeah ok, you are going to sit the kid who never lost a high school game as a starter? Secondly, even if he did make the decision, knowing that kid he wouldn’t have allowed it. That kid fought til the end. Gave everything Jay Cutler didn’t in that NFC championship game he sat out. You are dead wrong on this one Feeto. Sit it out or pick a better battle to go after Badke but he did nothing wrong there.

Bean lost some games as a junior starter I believe once they settled on him, I believe he started the MC game they lost in 2017. And Badke going for it on 4 and 15 from midfield was a horrible call that still has many Rice fans I know furious about. But those are the breaks, if he makes that 4th and Long he’s a genius if not he’s a fool, that’s coaching life.

As far as this upset pick, it’s not an upset if Marist wins. Both teams are figuring some stuff out right now and are in QB limbo. Marist seems to want to stick with the senior but are giving the Soph some time to make him happy in hopes he stays at the school. Never a good idea.

BR went with Somers who was thrown into the world of Catholic League Varisity Football and he struggled. The everyone had penciled in as the starter quit. Shame on him for quitting but he probably should have been given a shot in a game situation. BR played the wild card, I’m sure they will simplify things for him this week and give Shaw a heavy workload.

Final prediction in a pick em game, Rice 20, Marist 14. Marist offense just seems to be in a real funk.

Regaurding Thanksgiving weekend the coaching staff lost that game Bean did not take snaps all week Qb 2 took all the snaps and was told to prepare as if he was the starter game day with Bean still unable to push off back foot to throw with any velocity they went with him anyway ......i don't care what his record was his 1st couple years your hurt and can't perform a good coach would pull him and thank him for getting us to Champaign and go with the backup QB not let the kid stay in a game where he could of caused more damage to his ankle ....One coach said we would have needed to call the Sheriff's dept to get Johnny off the field Really your a coach you can't pull a player who is injured and McCaravan Smyth quit after he was told under no circumstances could he rotate with Ben nor could he be qb 2 if Ben was hurt the new OC had his guys all set and Smyth was offerd the starting TE spot who his good friend had worked all summer for after missing his JR year with an injury he felt that was to do to a teammate .Smyth would have accepted the qb 2 spot if he could get reps he had 4 College offers already and in contact with 7 or 8 schools who were waiting on his 1st few game films and the Staff knew this and still would not let him the Senior and Captian get a chance Smyth told Batke i would have rather started season and get pulled if you felt i was not playing well ....but if staff told Smyth over the summer he could have transferred and a kid 6'2 230 who had decent numbers 206/311 over 3,500 yrds passing with 45 tds and 8 ints over 1st 2 seasons would have found a home somewhere but when told 6 days before game 1 its to late reason they waited they said because it was such a close competition 1 coach said photo finish really it was so close that your P/WR is qb 2 ....Smyth love BR and is still a student and will continue his training with his qb coach and hopefully will play college football next year .......ps Smyth was not with the Crusader Crazies when they were chanting where is Smitty vs PC that would have been classless and Rude .........

7PM no sophomore game as The U is not waiting. Sadly the Brook lost 15-14 on a blocked FG attempt, but LWE typically blows us out on that level so I assume we are "up" even with kids on varsity.

Is that place still there? Wow! The last time I was in there was 06/23/1983. I think it was called Clementine's back then. It used to be a young person's hangout back then. Maybe the people are all gray by now. There is a story behind that visit between a friend of mine and a girl which I will not share. I also remember the exact date for a reason.

His inability to run did not lose them the game, it just didn't allow him to win it for them. I would imagine if you asked the other 10 senior starters if they wanted to go down swinging with Bean or put in the back-up, they would have chose Bean.It was BR's two turn-overs that proved costly.

Enough about 2018, back to our regularly scheduled program - 'Feeto's Friday Upset Special'

But my point is..... It's not up to the players. It's the ADULT COACHES job to set the lineup. How many kids would play with a concussion if the decision was up to them. The whole "There's no way he was leaving the field" thing is just weak coaching.

Did Coach Frank sit McNabb in that 9-6 playoff loss to DLS in ‘93 when he was injured & ineffective?

I watched Bean's highlight tape from the season. About half of the first 12 plays are from the state game. That game he wasn't an effective runner, but I do not think that his passing ability was compromised. (Look up his highlight tape on Hudl if you don't agree). If Bean wasn't an exceptional runner throughout the season, I do not think we are having this conversation. He was ok to sit back and distribute the ball.

Didn't LWE's QB play on one leg when they won state? If BR wins state 3-0 do we still have this convo?
