Article on career paths for black coaches...

Could he possibly relocate again, marking his fourth school in 14 months?

"I'd have to be insane not to take the opportunity to come to Tennessee and be a part of such a great staff and be in the company of the best minds in coaching and be around [new UT defensive coordinator] Monte Kiffin, who has been a mentor to so many guys."

Wilson says he isn't worried about how some negative recruiters might spin his past year aboard the coaching carousel, bouncing from job to job.

a great job of bringing in great recruiting coaches. Orgeron should let Kiffin know, at some point, someone is going to have to know how to coach a football team. I'm willing to bet this experiment with Kiffin is going to blow up in TN face.

There have been a few threads in the last week bashing UT's staff for being a "bunch of recruiters and having no coaches". Only time will tell if they are or aren't. I really have no opinion.

I made mention of this on nafoom, so I thought I'd pose the question here.

Lane Kiffin may be in over his head, but he was doing alright with the Raiders and USC. Lance Thompson is being billed only as a recruiter here because of his stint at Bama, but he is a solid coach on paper. So is Eddie Gran. Monte Kiffen is the top mind in defensive coaching. Orgeron is a buffoon, but coaching Dlinemen is the perfect position for him. Jim Chaney doesn't look like a bad coach on paper.

With the jokes about UT and recent optimism regarding your own staff in mind...My question to the sixpackers is...

What makes you think the MSU staff is a sure thing, while thinking UT will be a disaster?

Listen to what Kiffin had to say after luring Lance Thompson away from the Alabama staff and Frank Wilson from the Mississippi State staff. Kiffin also hired former Auburn coach Eddie Gran and former South Carolina recruiting coordinator David Reaves, who's Kiffin's brother-in-law.</p>

"To be able to take South Carolina's recruiting coordinator, Mississippi State's recruiting coordinator, Alabama's best recruiter and Auburn's best recruiter over the past 10 years was a great accomplishment for us," Kiffin said after completing his staff. "Once again, I would like to thank (athletic director) Mike Hamilton, the athletic department and our donors for making this possible."</p>

I see you failed to answer the question. I guess that is answer enough.

The Raiders are the team that replaced Mike Shanahan with Art Shell and then replaced John Gruden with Bill Callahan.

I'm not ready to hold Kiffen accountable for having to deal with Al Davis and inheritting a 2-14 team. It's not like he was exactly given much of a chance and it's not like I said he was a great coach.

With Kiffin's Cover 2, which is a pretty basic defense whose tenet is to funnel everything to the middle of the field and allow athleticism to take over, UT can "thrive" bringing in a bunch of studs. The problem that I see for them will be on the offensive side of the ball. You have to innovate and be very well coached to be successful in this league. Look no further than Croom's problems at State for evidence of that. He had Norwood and Conner, et al, very talented skill players, and couldn't get **** done with them.

He lost to Maine and Houston with them and that's pretty impressive.

I don't think MSU's staff is a sure thing.

Let's look at recruiting.... USC recruits itself, no doubt. You could appoint Stevie Wonder as the recruiting coordinator and he could spot and sign the talent needed to win there. So Lane Kiffin and his right hand man, Orgeron, were "recruiting geniuses" while at USC, and Orgeron even branches out to be a "recruiting genius" at Ole Miss, why then does Orgeron call on his right hand man from Ole Miss, Frank Wilson, when they ask him to become the UT super recruiter? Have Lane Kiffin or Orgeron either one ever proved they are good recruiters or simply relied on the school itself or another person to do the recruiting for them? I believe TN is betting the house on "Double Zero", and the payout's not looking good for the home team.
