Just got off the phone a Pastor in the midst of the flooding in TN/NC. He is in one of the most devastated locations. He verified a few things about the situation: - Almost all help is being done by private citizens, mainly churches.- Private helicopters are flying in the vast majority of the supplies.- Local Sheriffs are telling people to feel free to defend their property from looters by whatever means they have.- WROL (Without Rule of Law) is happening in some areas, which means looting, robbing, and etc. - FEMA's involvement has seriously complicated the rescue efforts.- Local Sheriffs have threatened to arrest FEMA workers if they hinder rescue and aid work. - The response to this tragedy has been massive and overwhelming. All from private individuals and local Churches. Pray for these people!
Me and Veteran friends spent the week helping people in the UpState of South Carolina. Until North Carolina gets it's **** together and FEMA learns to coordinate with Volunteers there. We are not going there. Anyone who has been trained to conduct S&R and Disaster Relief knows the Administration and the North Carolina Governor are a cluster **** right now and are way behind on where they should be in this operation.
South Carolina basically ignores this Administration. Sheriffs are not going to target anyone trying to assist. The Governor wouldn't tolerate it either.

Look, I don’t doubt that there are still many people that have serious needs. I understand that and am not questioning that part at all. But I do think that all the local/federal partners that are involved are doing the best they can. The reality is that this disaster covers a huge amount of land. In many places the roads and infrastructure are gone, and unfortunately it takes time.
Great post. Some of these roads are impassable, or completely gone. When local officials and the army corps of engineers tell people "you can't go there just yet", then that's that.
When my power goes off, I go nuts and blame the power company for not getting it fixed fast enough. That's humans. We are irrational during times of crisis. The fact is that there are many different factors that determine the speed of recovery. And that's not defending anyone. That's just the truth.

We are talking about Search and Rescue then getting the basics of Food, Water, and other supplies to those affected. It's been a week. That's a failure and there's no defending it.

But what you can't seem to wrap your brain around is this Administration can't handle the the basics of Search and Rescue missions and getting basics of water and MREs to those that need it since last Friday.
