IF Michigan is good he might keep his job. But they are bad so he'll get fired. They might wait to the end of the season or something, but going to be tough to keep him around. Last year or earlier this year he incited a scuffle too.
Did he really? Wow. He’s gotta go. You can’t have a hot head like that leading young men.

Here is the “punch”

It appears in the video the OP posted that the assistant coach Howard went after had a quick altercation with the Michigan player in the headband, verbally and possibly putting his forearm on his chest. I’m not condoning anything, but looks like Howard lost it right after that happened.

Can’t do that. No innocent parties here. But at some point you have to get your players an walk away. NCAA will NOT be happy with this.

Gard should be suspended also. Both coaches are trash.
For what? Doing what most coaches have done at some point and stopping a coach during handshakes to tell them something they were unhappy about? What happened there between the two at first really isn’t the worst part of the entire ordeal. We’ve seen coaches get heated. Remember UGA & Missou a few years back? Benches empty. Coaches grabbing each other and screaming. Eventually they hugged and made up. But no one slapped, punched, or incited a brawl. Howard did.

So Howard claims "self defense"?

Laughable.

If he had initially struck back after Gard first grabbed him, then I would buy it.

Waiting as long as he did to throw a punch / slap? No way that was self defense.

I was thinking suspension for Howard, but after that weak, totally disingenuous response, I think he deserves to be fired. He should have owned it and begged forgiveness.

Idiot.
This. You be a man and admit fault. But no. Like ol pocket lint their egos are too big. They’re GODS GIFT TO BASKETBALL. They are never wrong. Time to humble his ***. Fire him.

It’s literally not hard.

Now, I get it. In the heat of the moment. You may still be pissed. But then at that point you do what every lawyer/intelligent person anywhere advises you to do when you might say something stupid. You shut the %#$& up. And walk off. Cool down. Come back and release a statement. “I screwed up and I apologize. In restitution I will recuse myself for X amount of games. Etc”.

THATS leading by example.

Agree but that is not the way
its always someone elses fault

I am trying so hard to teach my kids to have responsibility of their actions, and not fabricate excuses

He needs to be fired. No excuse for a grown man who is supposed to be a leader acting like this.Imagine the reaction if Cal did this.
Cal would’ve been fired IMMEDIATELY. I know we joke about wanting Cal to do that to an official, you don’t actually do it. Howard would be in my office Monday morning. Federal/Public holiday or not.

You’ve never been in a fight if you call that a punch
Only reason it wasn’t is because he probably realized he couldn’t reach with a good hook. He had his fist balled up, then did the grab attack, and then balled it up again.

He’s a grown *** man in charge of modeling young men. You don’t act like that. Fire him.

Funny thing is, some of Cal’s cool-aid drinkers here would defend him if say, he did the same thing at Arkansas, with their assistant! And you jokers better not even say you wouldn’t! 😂🤣
I sure as **** wouldn’t. The only way that behavior is acceptable is if someone is attacking you. Hell, Whisky’s asst would’ve been justified in knocking his block off after that.

Commissioner can effectively put a restraining order on Howard. Can bar him from games and events. And if your coach can got to events, he can’t perform his job. And if he can’t perform his job….hmmmm,

Black coach....black history month.....woke culture....he's not going anywhere. He might be suspended for a couple of weeks. But no loss of his job.
Can’t fire him. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Lebron James, and Stephen A Smith would bring the NAACP down on Michigan. The media would pile on and BLM would burn and loot the whole city.

Wow. Howard grabbed Gard like he was about to throw him. Grabbed that shirt like he wanted t9 slam him against a wall. Gard just want to talk. Damn Howard. That was ugly.

On a side note. Those UW university police suck. They just kinda stood around tbh.

From this angle once Howard says don’t touch me why continue touching him ? Just let him keep walking at that point . Howard has to behave better but the Wisconsin coach only made matters worse .
Man, I ain’t defending Gard, but if that’s how Howard reacts to slight touches, he’s a danger to himself and others. Did you see how he grabbed Gard? That underhand grab of his shirt? That was down right scary tbh. His brow furrowed and I’m surprised he did hit Gard there. Hard isn’t innocent but Howard sparked the powder keg with the strike.

After watching that weak *** physicality I don’t think anyone in the video is a danger to anyone.

So Howard was only protecting himself by trying to attack another coach after other coaches and players were already separating them?

Sounds pretty logical to me.

Lol that grab wasn’t much of anything . It was for a second and he let go . Once Howard told him don’t touch me Gard should have kept walking . It was obvious Howard didn’t want to have a discussion .

If the roles were reversed and a white coach swings at a black coach...the white coach gets fired tomorrow and Stephen A Smith calls it "racially motivated"... But just like Georgetown, every AD in America is scared chitless to fire Ewing or Howard in fear of being called a racist. Howard gets suspended but he's good as gold.
