Final Grade on this Class

I know you can't actually judge a class until all the players have graduated, but what is your final grade on this class as it exists on paper?

We had a lot of momentum heading into 2016 and throughout much of the Fall. It was exciting to be in on so much top tier talent. We also closed this class with 3 Top 100 players, the most since 2005 when we also got 3. We were in it with many elite players right up until the end. We also filled some needs on DL.

BUT, the class has some holes as well: safety, running back, a fourth WR, to name the few that stand out to me. Also, with that excitement came some inevitable dissapointment, as what looked like a Top 15 class turned out to be a Top 25 class, more or less par for the course. Most importantly, I think, is that we undersigned yet again. Now, I actually don't want to be like Alabama or Michigan and oversign players only to cut some later. But when you figure in attrition, we still aren't doing ourselves any favors even after you consider awarding scholarships to a deserving walk-on or two. I also know that Riley mentioned he likes to have an opening or two for transfers. Hopefully that happens, or else these few other spots are going to waste.

Perhaps our biggest signings were on the coaching staff, and hopefully those pay dividends next year and beyond.

Overall, I give the class a B+. Really excited to see how Lindsey, Gebbia, and Daniels turn out.

I think it's a B+ as well.

I disagree a bit on holes. I tend to look at the whole roster to determine where the holes are because you have 4 or 5 years to compensate for shortfalls.

Between RB and WR I think you need 8 WR and 5 RB. We currently have 7 WR and 5 RB (counting Taylor). We only lose 1 WR next year, DPE, so signing 2 in 18 gets you to 8. Same with RB only Taylor is a senior to be, so get 1, hopefully 2 RB in 18 and you are full.

I love the DLine recruits.

I do think we missed at DB but we have some good experience coming back for a couple of years, so there was no need to reach for guys.

I think some forget about Avery Anderson and Eric Lee, both 4 star guys from that class

Really wanted Lewis, Verdell, and Blades. 1/3 will suffice. Didn't Lewis visit campus like 7x?

our worst ranking appears to be #23 by 247 sports with only 20 recruits... I think it is one of our best classes in the past 10 years in terms of quality and we were in position to having potentially the best class in the modern recruiting era for our program. For that I give an A-, the next class will surpass this one... I'm expecting an A+

I think last year was considered a B by most people. This year is a B+ for me as well. A+ for effort. It's an improvement, but coach also stated it's not where they want to be either.

Things should become an easier sell when recruits can see what the real offensive identity, and now a new 3-4 defensive system will look like. It should be more congruent going forward.

Solid B. Have to wait and see how well this staff coaches them up.

A

This is the best in years. We were all over the news today. Kid's seeing Nebraska being a tough choice for a 5 star living in USC's back yard! Ya, we didn't get him but just the effort by the staff, the quality of the kid's, (grades, character, attitude, talent) this is an A class who I can't wait to see as a building block towards what we all want.

18 on Scout, 19 on Rivals. A for effort. Clearly the class has potential, but in terms of program success, it's about how many of these kids are around in 3-4 years and how well they develop. Are there more Abdullah's in this class, or more Todd Peat Jr's? Pelini's best class was ranked 15th by rivals (link below). Will this class outperform that class? Less than half of that class contributed on game day.

I would like to see better offensive lineman, running back and another pass rusher. Overall not bad, but they need to start landing some of the top tier talent next year and going forward to stay up with the teams in the east.

Michigan will not cut anyone. Teams are allowed to count early enrollees in the previous class.

I look at it in terms of division and conference ratings. We finished 5th in conference and 1st in our division. For that I give it a B. Imo we should finish no lower than 3rd in our conference.

We got exactly what we needed for the O line. 2 OTs and an OG. Walker may play offense but I suspect he ends up at DE.

It would be great if we finished no lower than third... That would mean one of Ohio State, Michigan, or Penn State finished beneath us.

Having said that, they all have some pretty great recruiting going on. If we crack that lineup, we will be back in short order.

That class seems to be a bit inflated, I don't think anyone seriously thought Bubba Starling would be playing college football... lose him and where to you drop to? Not to mention, maybe my memory is a little foggy, but it always seemed like we weren't competing with the big boys for their commitments even if they were 4 stars or highly rated. I mean it would happen here and there but it wasn't the norm. Most of the guys in this class, highly ranked or not were highly sought after

I agree with you about the amount of o linemen, but I would to have seen better quality prospects like Foster Sarell.

Well sure, I would have loved to land Foster Sarell also for the Offensive Line. And I would have loved to land Joseph Lewis at Wide Receiver. And I think we should have landed Robert Beal at Defensive End. And what good is one DB when there will be an entire side of the field exposed without Lenoir. I mean, I have no idea why the #1 rated recruits at each position would not be required to commit to a team in the Midwest which finished out of the Top 25 (again). Riley is right-- close counts in hand grenades and horseshoes; but you have to like that we were in it at the end with some pretty top notch prospects. I love Nebraska. I would commit to Nebraska immediately. But based upon very little momentum, lets not forget that our finish in the Recruiting Rankings surpassed our ranking in the actual Rankings and that we can coach up our recruits for better days to come.

With all of that said, I would give it a B+. I really like the pieces that we put together and think there is really good material to work with in this class. I would have given it an A- had the day reversed, and we had the disappointment in the morning and finished solidly. The regency effect of ending by landing 1 out 5 California kids at closing cast a pall on the #Calibraska feeling and closing and probably (fairly or unfairly) lowers the grade.

My only point being, if we don't start signing the prospects like Lewis, Sarell, Lenoir, etc. We will never compete for a conference championship let alone a national title. I was a little disappointed on how the class filled out, but I do see improvement and that's I can ask for a as fan.

I'm going to say B+ honestly. Would have liked another big receiver on the outside but I don't see many misses outside of that. We needed OL guys and we got some really good ones. In moving to a 3-4 we got guys that fit that to a T. I think Guy Thomas has the chance to get 6-8 sacks from the outside each year. Watts and Daniels are perfect for the line. Gebbia put up record breaking numbers and has a chance to be a star. I like the TEs as well. Blades could be a first round pick when it's all said and done. Coaching could make this one of the best classes we've ever had. The talent is there across the board.

Bubba was a 5.8 and ranked 119th overall. In today's points, that is worth 134 points.

If you drop 134 points from that class, we would have finished 20th.

This class is solid, the fact we missed on a few studs at the end is far better than we have been in yrs. this class will be remembered and Neb was seen again by people for the first time in years. Build off this next yr I am bullish

Michigan must have had a lot of early enrollees last year as well as that class had 29. It isn't often a school can bring in classes of 29 and 30 recruits back to back.

They also must throw out a few bad apples every year too.
