These 9 + an unknown mystery man candidate appear to be the popular current candidates on message boards and X. Who do you think it will be? Drink is out with an extension. Brohm has bombed in the latter half of this season. Sumrall and Golesh are much more strongly connected to southern schools. Stein and Joe Brady are rarely listed as candidates at this point. I strongly considered listing Kiffin over Key, but truly Kiffin is more connected to Fl and LSU and Key, despite GT's difficulties lately, continues to be listed as a real candidate for PSU. Sitake may look odd here and perhaps he does not belong on the list, but his name has recently popped up on different boards as a candidate. Daboll may look odd as well but his name will not go away and Saban just endorsed him.

Chesney out to an early lead. No longer a Smith fan at all but I have a difficult time seeing Krafty going with Chesney over Smith if our top guys fall through.

Mystery Man, despite claims he turned it down: Marcus Freeman. Better to be in a conference to get into playoffs vs independent.

We need Bama to lose and the natives get restless
I believe that if Deboer is the guy there is already a signed MOU regardless of the outcome of that game. I would rather see him win and we announce him next week. We just experienced the Mahon situation and the cfb world steal our recruiting class. Time to enact our own revenge and take a coach from a cfp team. 😀

I would love to watch the Paul Finebaum show if that happened. The calls would be classic.

Mystery man. Somebody mentioned Elvis in another post. I would like to see Elvis as head coach. If Elvis turns us down, I want to see Bob92 take the job. Our concessions would be top notch. In addition to the whiteout, we could have a tong-out.

Yeah, at this point after Franklin used his boy Mahon to wreck our recruiting class, I want us to cause absolute chaos and pull a playoff coach away from his team.

I’d take the field over Chesney. I want DeBoer. But, if I had to bet, I’d bet on Chesney.

At this point I want Hartline with Chesney and Daboll being back up choices. Any of the 3 and I would be ok with the hire. I just don't see DeBoer leaving Bama or being forced out. If he was then he would rise to the top for me.

Terry Smith. I want someone that actually cares about Penn State and will give us some needed stability at this point. If not him, pick any overpayed prostitute / carpetbagger you want. They’ll only be here for the money, and leave us high and dry like BOB did after two years.

I get what you’re saying…I really do. But the cynic in me gets that “love for Dear Old State” is not very high on the list of requirements for the job. We live in mercenary times now, and Kraft appears to be in the paying for trophies game with everyone else.

Kraft does not strike me as stupid. Selecting Terry over any candidate will simply breathe life into the Paterno cancer eating at the core of this program. This division needs to be healed and that is done by a hard reset. Clean house.

For the record, I thought Paterno was an excellent coach for much of his life. His ghost, however, does not win football games.

IMHO, the "hard reset" you mentioned started after the loss to Northwestern. Whatever was brewing, up to that game, behind the scenes, came to an immediate STOP after the loss to NW. It had to be pretty, pretty bad! The "house cleaning" will be left to the new coach.

Any of those three indicate that PSU struck out on their top choices and Kraft is on the hot seat.

The question for me would be why did they strike out assuming he did. If it was solely on money then Kraft isn't on the hot seat as much. That is on the administration to pay up. He got the top choice(s) ready to commit to PSU and the admin wouldn't pony up the money to match other offers that is not on Kraft as much.

I’m not an insider or connected at all other than a PSU grad/fan. I think Kraft has had the mystery man in place for weeks. NFL guy. Not Dabol. Currently employed with a contender, which is an issue in my mind as he may work into the new year. Good college experience, mainly in NE. If he retains several “good” assistant coaches like Barnes, Conner or Howle, (not as coordinators and I have no idea which coaches are really “good”) maybe Terry, we might salvage a few recruits. Lots of NIL $$ for transfers! Kraft, not Sekrah, made sure of that!

Unfortunately, not a great record as a head guy (but was at a tough place to win in my opinion) and more a defensive mind??

We’ll see. Hopefully, we announce on Monday. Home run hire?? I guess will take a few months/years to rate that. If somebody signs Schwarber today, it’s a “home run” hire. But if he hits 20-some home runs in next few years and KO’s half the time, not so much.

This is Kraft’s situation. He created it. If he did it without a plan and can’t deliver a higher level coach than he fired, then he needs to go.

Replied in a different thread that perhaps Kliff Kingsbury is the guy. Recall that report that Engram came up to interview. What if he was interviewing for OC under Kingsbury?

Please get off the Chesney train. They didn’t fire Franklin for Chesney. Krafty must upgrade. Another reason why Terry won’t be the guy.
you sure about that? you sure hes not an upgrade?

Too many variables in that for me, as well as how do you know someone like chesney won't be better than franklin given the resources of PSU. Have to wait see how the coach delivers then if he fails Kraft should be let go.

Yes and no. It’s a win now environment or you’ll fall behind very quickly. If the new coach is a risky gamble and they come out of the gates bad next season, the chants of “Fire Kraft” should show up pretty quickly.

He has been mentioned as a potential candidate from time to time, but not consistently like others. Engram is his wr coach in Washington. I just find it interesting that Engram was reported to be interviewing, which makes no sense that he would be up against another alum in terms of Terry Smith. Perhaps he really was interviewing for OC and Krafty and Kliff currently putting that staff together. Here is the Tengwell post on Bobby.

I know, but perhaps it was all smoke and he was coming into interview for OC. Who the hell knows. I am going Deboer in the poll but if it truly is “mystery man” my backup choice would be Kliff Kingsbury with Bobby as the OC. Having Bobby as the OC gives Krafty some cover with the lettermen and old guard.

Landon got the Engram scoop from Bobby’s side. Can’t really be any “smoke” that way.
