In light of the recent blog from Orlando, a "what if" to ponder. In ten years, when the SEC needs to renegotiate the ESPN deal or leverage for some bigger deal that would make the current ESPN deal look like a Jefferson Pilot contract, the SECasks the state of Mississippi to consolidate into one SEC member institution due to market size, WTF happens?

The state of florida has 18,000,000 people and gets one share of SEC (ESPN) revenue. The state of MS has close to 3,000,000 and gets two shares of (ESPN) revenue. I think the next TV deal will dictate an expansion of the conference and those numbers will defintely be under the microscope. It might be easier to sell if MS had one team and one split of the revenue. But, as a disclaimer, I have had 4 Jack and DCs so far tonight and could be totally off base.

The state of MS gets two shares of SEC revenue and 1 share of Conference USA revenue. The state of Florida gets 1 share of SEC revenue, 2 shares of ACC revenue, 1 share of Big East revenue, and 1 share of Conference USA revenue.

If the SEC ever looks to contract (which I don't see ever happening), they'd just vote out MSU, UM, and VU and that would be the end of the story. Do you even have any idea of the magnitude of the changes, and the cost, that would have to happen to combine universities? It's just not possible.

i don't think any school in the sec has any problems with the way the money is handled....the problems with the big 12 are for these same reasons...the sec is a great healthy conference...and this is one of the reasons.

and that might be a big number, but the state of MS is getting around 20 million now, and if the SEC expanded to to 16 teams that included the state of TX, Ok, Va, NC, yada, yada, and only one Ms team, you can get to that number quick.
