Tressel coached at Youngstown State before North Alabama so that would be about right.

If your info at the end is correct, then it sounds as if Wilson and Mullen are out of the picture.

My only concern with Wilson is desire to be a HC. From reading bio, it seems he has turned down some opportunities because something wasn't right, something I don't think he would have done if he really had the fie to be HC. Love him therwise. Hud though, this guy knows what he wants to do with the job if he gets it, cna he make it happen, who knows? Without info on Wilson's desire Ilean to Hud. Both are risks, but it is what it is at MSU, we will have to take risks in choosing a football coach unlike baseball.

I don't want a shock and awe hire. Wilson is a good "fit" hire as it would appear as an up and coming assistant to HC.
In any event, I just don't want a retread hire.

"Give me Wilson or give me death" Well since you put it like that, I'll take 'anybody but Wilson' for 10,000 please, Alex.

Good coaches can win anywhere - that's proven time and time again as a lot of coaches took no-name programs into something and thus landed bigger jobs. That's just a huge myth that I just don't understand. We went 8-4 last year with NO offense. Nutt turned OM from the worst SEC record the past 3 years (I think that's correct) into 8-4 in the Cotton Bowl in one year. Bobby Johnson has freaking Vandy in a bowl game. I'm so tired of that crap line.........NO BCS school other than maybe Vandy (because they have no ath dept) is a coaching graveyard. Hell if Rutgers isn't, we're sure as hell not.

that unfortunately too many people believe and continue to hype. What makes our job anymore dead end than many others out there?

I can't think of one thing ole miss has going for it over us, and they went 8-4 this year.

Orgeron, Croom, and Felker didn't fail b/c of Starkville or Oxford or Mississippi. They failed b/c they weren't good head coaches.

Ok early last week a University plane went to Muscle Sholes, AL which is 4 miles from Florence, AL home of UNA. Today the same plane Greg got off of yesterday is schedule to make a return trip to Muscle Sholes, AL and land at 6:20 p.m. Either its a another interview or they are picking up our new coach.

if you look at the history of the flight plans that seems to be the resting spot of the aircraft. No matter where that plane has been it usually ends up back in Muscle Shoals

I can only hope that its Wilson or Mullen and he is able to hire a good staff. If we can make a good hire and the guy can win 6-8 games a year then the perception that this is a graveyard will go away. With a 12 game schedule a good coach can win 6 games a year easy here. 5 wins should be the floor.

I hope it is not the creditable inside sources that said Peterson is a lock!!! I am not trying to discredit you but why does no one else know this?

If Byrne is half as sharp as I think he is this should NOT have been a surprise to him. No matter the shortcomings of the HCs we've had OR the facility and program upgrades we've made over the past 15 years the "world" still views us an SEC cellar dwellar who has had ONE season in the last EIGHT where we've won more than 4 games. That's a STIFF headwind to go against and likely the reason we didn't get Petersen. In the article out of Boise he definitely stated he had coaching "friends" calling him asking if he was "out of his mind" for seriously considering us. I thought the success in the 90s had helped get rid of this perception but the last 8 years have undone all that.

At least when JS left, we were considered a program that could be successful given the right coach.

Croom turned this program into a laughingstock.

Miss. State is only a year removed from a 8-5 season & a bowl victory.

If that's not the core definition of a program that serves up career suicide, then I don't know what does.

I've come to the conclusion that if a potential coach is ignorant enough to dismiss all the facts & buy into the "career suicide" nonsense, then we don't need that coach here anyway.

The only aspect of career suicide that has taken place within the Miss. State football program over the last 30 years is our idiotic coaches committing their own career suicides.

If a potential coach is such a big ***** he is going to opt out of taking the Miss. State job because he is afraid of some "career suicide" ********, then he needs to keep his panties in his pink suitcase & fly back to his mommy's teat so he can continue to breast feed.

If you like to think of yourself of some type of macho football coach who is willing to take on all comers, then why do you resort to the ******-*** rhetoric of "career suicide?"

to watch a lot of the "media coverage" over the past week. Last I heard there was NO coverage. What is this referring to? Crooms's two interviews? Are there national talking heads out now saying that we're crazy for firing Crooms?

I was under the impression that most people weren't even aware that MSU was looking for a new head coach.

You're saying one candidate would shock the college football world? Like we'd pull a big name coach from a big name school?

I don't understand why people here are tying that statement to Hudspeth or Hatcher.

Tressell was at a lower division, Im pretty sure thats why people are putting Hudspeth and Hatcher's name out there. Those are the only two that make any sense.

Yeah, the first bowl game this decade...it's by far the toughest place to win in the SEC West. Be realistic about our plight.

27 hours in KC, another meeting in Dallas, got to feel that its Wilson, and I think if he bows out its Hatcher or Hudspeth. I think its pretty clear, Petersen was number 1, and Wilson was plan B. If we have to go to plan C in Hatcher or Hudspeth at least we know that there was a plan unlike the previous admin.
