The MHSAA football championships will be at Mississippi State in 2014 and 2016, at Ole Miss 2015 and 2017.

They get the Mississippi Alabama all star game every other year starting in 15.

So when does USM get it?
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think they should have equal parts in hosting. As far as I'm concerned, I don't think it's a capacity issue... VHS and DWS are going to be 1/3 full, if that.

90% of the kids playing in these things aren't going to play at either 3, or any at all for that matter... but just as many of those who go on to play college football are going to go to USM.

Hattiesburg would be a good host too.

I like this......possible 'crootin advantage

It won't hurt to have the best players in the state getting an extra long look at our newly updated stadium.

They're splitting time with Mobile on the MS/AL game. They came out better on that end from a revenue stand point. I think this works great for all 3 schools as well as the MS/AL game and MSHAA.

I don't know the specifics for why not Jackson, but I would assume it's probably for the same reason the state championships are moving out. For whatever reason that may be.

And I believe the MS/AL game is held in Mobile.

Yes, that's what I was getting at, but I didn't want to assume it. I'm guessing they didn't want to deal with Jackson State, which is a shame since it's the capital city and all.

MS/AL was held in Montgomery last year. They stopped holding it in Mobile in 2010, per the website.

If USM wants the MS/AL all-star game, I'd rather them not get to host the HS championships honestly.

It was moved to Montgomery a few years ago. Starting in 2015, it will rotate between MS and AL. I do think they should have gone with an equal 4-way rotation between Starkville, Oxford, Hattiesburg & Jackson for both the championship games and the all-star games.

Not only that, but neither DWS nor VHS are remotely near the center of the state. Gulfport is about a 5 hour drive to Starkville and further to Oxford. Meanwhile, Desoto county schools are 30-45 min from Oxford. That's not necessarily an even playing field for southern MS schools traveling to a championship game on a Friday night.

It could be worse. The Louisiana championship games are in New Orleans.

I'm glad the state got something right. This is an awesome idea and I'm glad for the student athletes who earn the right to play in the best facilities our state has to offer.

You're off by about an hour. 4 hours to Vegas from Gulfport, and around 5 to Oxford. If Jackson was a better venue, it probably should be played there, but even there you'd have some teams with an advantage based on proximity. Rotating among the universities, in addition to providing nicer venues, also spreads that advantage/disadvantage around, rather than the same areas being advantaged everyyear.

You would think it was a terrible idea based on what the Jackson folks and USM people are saying. They have been crying bloody murder ever since the idea was proposed. In their opinion everyone got screwed except for us and Ole Miss. Well maybe that's true, but I don't think any of the teams that make the championship this year will be complaining once they see the improved facilities they get to use versus the year before.

I just drove from Biloxi (Beau Rivage) to Starkville in less than 3 1/2 hours.

I just drove from the Beau Rivage to Starkville in less than 3 1/2 hours. Sure, it could take four if you didn't drive a few miles over the speed limit but the addition of 67 and staying the 59 to 45 four lane track, you can make some really good time these days getting to and from the coast.

4 hours is definitely conservative. 3 hours and 45 minutes is easily doable if you are driving about 5 to 10 miles over the speed limit and don't stop.
