Always seems like WVU has a lack of quality depth. But the defensive coaches have a good job at coaching up those at the 2nd level.

It would be nice to get a 1st team offense that could break 30 for an average.

What is unfair about playing a young athlete(Jefferson)? They want to play and every team we faced had a screwed up practice schedule. And last year was a free one from the eligibility perspective. Was he pressed into service early, sure but he stepped up and at a minimum he should have a better feel for the speed of the game and the talent/experience of the OLs he will face this year.

Many may not realize it, but our D loses D Stills, S Mahone, S Young, A Addae and V Cowan to graduation this year. J Chandler Semedo and D Stevens are also listed as Seniors (I’m not sure if they get a free year so they could be gone after this year as well). Yes, we absolutely need to find some quality depth this year! That is why getting players via the portal with more than a year of eligibility was critical this year. And great recruits that can step onto the field quickly and contribute. Really hoping to see the coaches put some young studs in the games.

Don't need an entire team from the portal. That is short term fix. See previous staff for why. Unless the ultimate goal is to go 7-6 or 8-5 every year.

Portal is here to stay.
WVU has to use it the correct way. This is the truth in both sports.
Bring up players who play at lower levels who want to get more attention from the NFL
I actually think the portal works better in basketball. A coach who has the staff that evaluates/projects well can create a Sweet 16 team every year

The portal is the death of sports. Just like free agency ruined pro sports. How big of a percentage make it to a better team or no team at all.

2019 Case Study recently:

Biggest majority end up division 2 or 3 even juco with no scholarship. There were a good number of players who entered their name into the transfer portal in 2019 and did not end up at another college. These players weren’t just guys who were at the bottom of the totem pole coming out of high school either.

From just the power five schools there are still, to this day, 63 players who are not committed to a current football team. Nine of those are from the Big 12, 14 from the Big 10, 22 from the PAC-12, 13 from the SEC and five from the ACC.

Of the 63 players, 40 were ranked as 3-star athletes coming out of high school. There were also four players who were ranked as 4-stars who entered their name into the portal in 2019 and have yet to commit to another team.

The transfer portal can be a great opportunity for players to finally earn playing time or get closer to home, but it can also be detrimental to a career.

You don't build a good foundation with transfers. You use those players to fill needs on the team.
