Ahh but he’s so nice!! He doesn’t curse or anything. Give him a chance

Let's not act like most of the fanbase didn't love him a month ago. All the avis, "I have faith in Pope." "I'm not worried about the recruitment of High School players anymore." etc, etc.
And to be fair, I thought he did a great job, exceeding all expectations his first season.

Wild how fast his approval rating with the fanbase has plummeted. (Deservedly so at the moment)
Was the fanbase even calling for Billy G's head 8 games into his second season? Wasn't on the boards at the time.

We can't run his offense because he didn't bring in any real shooters from the portal except Williams, who is shooting 20%. CC developed nicely, but outside of that, no one can hit a shot.

Pope bet on toughness type dudes to be able to overcome. I like Aberdeen and Mo, but they simply are not super studs. We lack talent badly, plus dudes cannot stay healthy. Will JQ even play now? What's the point? This team doesn't do anything but brick bad shots. Maybe his rebounding could improve if he played.
This is where my doubt for Popes recruiting ability comes in. Your offense is built on 3 point shooters. You publicly declare you want to shoot the most 3's over every other team in the country. Yet you don't bring in any capable players to do so. Did he strike out on every 3 point option that he just signed the 12 guys that would say yes to him no matter what their analytics said?

I still believe he is a good coach, but I do admit that I’m having trouble finding evidence to support that from this season.
Tonight was as frustrating of a game as I can remember.
I still would like to see what we would look like with a healthy roster. Still, we had every chance to win tonight but just didn’t. It was just a very poor performance on the offensive end and on the glass.

If Pope has any dignity he should resign, you cannot fail like this with 20 million dollars. Pope got thrown into this by a incompetent AD, and clearly in over his head. I'm sure Pope is a good neighbor but he's a terrible coach. Just look at the players body language, Pope has totally lost the locker room.

To OP and anyone else calling for Pope to be fired, realistically speaking, is there really any precedent for a College Basketball coach being fired 8 games into the season, barring a scandal?
Not defending the inexcusable start to this season, just saying logistically it's highly unlikely he's fired during the season regardless of how bad things turn out.

About a 21M buyout for this mess. Would be less but we gave the Stoops esque extend and raise each year he makes the sweet 16…

just laughable tonight. This team will end up better if/when the 3 multi millionaires in warmups play, but he has been downright awful as a coach since the end of last season.

BCG was 11-4 going into the SEC his second season. But he did lose to VMI his first game that year.

I'm happy to say I didn't watch one second of this and won't until we get a point guard

I get the frustration but peoiple are over reacting and some of the takes are embarassing to me.

Don't give up your integrity in exchange for wins agaisnt UNC and Louisville.

He still has 2 players that are difference makers in Lowe and JQ. You give a good coach those players and he'll win. You give a good coach a team without those players and he'll struggle. Take a league leading talent PG away from your team, its reasonable to assume the team is going to struggle.

Look I'm not saying at the end of the year Pope shouldn't be evaluated on whether this is working but 8 games into the season with injuries?

Its a bad take born out of frustration with losing high profile games and hearing shxx from UL fans who talk more trash for a program that has been a dumpster fire for years than any other fanbase in the world.

My head is spinning. I was glad Hurley passed on us, and happy we got pope.
Man I couldn’t have been more wrong.
After Oats, I’m not even sure who would be on the list.
I know Pope loves UK with all his heart, but this is to big for him.
Be like LSU and offer Oats whatever it takes to get him, or May, or Lloyd, or someone who can recruit and win big games.

That’s basically what it’ll take. It’s what we did before with Calipari.

What we need are boosters and other members close to the program putting out feelers for coaches to get a good idea who might be willing to come here. Don’t do this blindly. Don’t end up like PSU football.

What makes anyone believe that
1.) Jaland Lowe will even play again this year.
2.) If he even does that he will be effective or won’t be immediately hurt again?

Dude is made of glass, can’t guard, and can’t shoot.

I’ve really soured on Aberdeen. He is just a chucker, trying to get his own and not a good teammate.

I think everyone really like Pope. He's one of us. He loves UK and BBN. But the more I watch, I think he's in way over his head. If he can't start landing some top level talent either recruits or in the portal this next time around, this isn't going to end well for him.

Mitch went after some heavy hitters but they said no.

Sadly with NIL that's leveled the playing field to a degree. It's all about the money now. The alure of playing for a blue blood doesn't quite have the same impact as it did.

UK is a major D1 school, but I wonder if this JMI deal is hampering being able to pay out enough money to pull in the top talent.
