How do you feel about the decision to keep slinging the threes despite our cold streak? Made threes probably won the OM game. Of course it seems dumb when we miss, and genius when we hit 'em. I will try to remain neutral, but I have a reason for asking. When we were draining them, we were a top 30 team but suddenly lost our stroke. We definitely need some other form of offense, but I dont think we have the personel. Winsome Frazier always said the only way to get your stroke back is to keep gunning.

i think we need to keep shooting in general because i think that's the only way we make a run in march. we do need to cut out the 30 footers and the kodi augustus shots.

a shooter has to shoot his way out of a slump. I would prefer some balance though. At least make a team rule that JV must touch the ball down low at least once every possession. At worst JV has to immediately kick it back out because of the defensive pressure, but we have gotten the defense shifting around which will eventually open up a hole. With the ball staying outside the 3-point line, there is no reason for the defense to be anywhere but the 3-point line. If you noticed last night towards the end of the game, OM had pushed us out all the way to the half-court stripe.

Nothing pisses me off more than an offensive possession that consists of one perimeter pass and a jacked trey. That kind of possession is never acceptable unless the defender totally forgot to defend his man and the shooter has a wide open shot.

hitters keep swing the bat, shooters keep shooting.

I do like seeing Ravern and others take the ball to the basket. That helps, but we can't stop shooting threes.

they should keep gunning....Barry and Ravern. Quite possibly you could throw Phil in there with them. Dee must first concentrate on handling the ball better, penetrating, and dishing....then taking a really solid three when it is there. Kodi needs to be benched if he ever takes another three point shot. As I have already posted, Kodi needs to bang more or ride the pine. It is his choice.

That really makes no sense. And god forbid why would you want offensive players who didn't have the ball moving into the newly created open spots. That would be "mind bottling".

to the three.
You can't really count on JV on "O".
AND when he gets fouled out against KY, we will be in deep **** against them.
I just don't see that we have many options against good competition.,... at least not consistently.

The problem is that we do an absolutely horrible job of setting up the 3-pt shot. When we take the ball on offense, you can pretty much count on 1 of 3 things happening.

1. We pass the ball around the arch a few times and jack up a contested 25 footer.
2. Bost drives the ball into the lane in an out of control manner and either turns it over or throws up a wild shot that bricks off the side of the backboard.
3. An entry pass goes to JV and while there are no less than 2 wide open guys at the 3-pt line to pass to, he'll make a wild spin move into a double team and throw up a brick.

IF you want to know why we're struggling, it's because the above three plays describe 95% of our offensive sets.

Using the baseball analogy, that's like saying the only people who should keep swinging during a slump are the leadoff hitter and cleanup hitter.

No. Stansbury purposely recruited guys who could shoot. It doesn't make sense to take away one of their options. Sure, we always want to take best shot each time down the floor. But, that doesn't mean you tell your shooters not to take a shot if they have the opportunity. A team full of Riley Benocks is NOT what we want.

Our problem is we have too many "Is". Too many of them want to be the man and no one wants to relenquish that. If a player is hot, feed the m fer the rock and rack up on assists. If you get hot, expect your teammates and coach to feed you the rock. We have a group of selfish players who don't know/realize that if they would dish the ball to wide open guys more, it would actually help them score more.

it's that we've been taking bad shots. We need to keep on taking good 3-point shots and quit taking so many bad ones.

because of our team make up we're gonna keep shootin and we should. the problem is that there is no real design to get shooters open to improve their percentages. if we had more movement from the 3 or 4 guards on the court then we would see more open 3's. definitely would be easier with a real offensive threat in the post. augustus?

all that being said, as the team is now, we should keep shooting. only chance to go far is to keep shooting and hope ravern and barry can get hot.
