I chose to dedicate my first post to "The Recruiter". I won't argue stats, valuable lost players and coach, player attitudes, or little kids leading the team on the court. Place all those issues to the side and this IS what I see when I watch a Stans coached team: <div>Defense: with the exception of the forgotten 1-3-1, he runs a man to man and the 2-3, guys we have all run these defenses since we were kids, it's not rocket surgery! He gets away with it (usually) because he recruits athletes and not basketball players. And to make matters worse, he will switch to the 2-3 when the opponents are hot behind the 3-point line.. What logic is that? Hey, let's give them a cleaner look at the rim and they're certain to miss?? Ex: yesterday, WSU got hot behind the 3 point line early in the 2nd half, not only does StansNOT call timeout, he switches to the 2-3 and Thompson, I believe, nailed another three, uncontested... Ball Game!</div><div>Offense: hahaha sorry, here goes: no fundamentals at ALL, our point guards constantly dribble into trouble only to pick up the ball, how many times have you seen our guards step right into a trap and stop the dribble just over half-court? this is not supposed to happen. To make it worse, no one helps because they are in their designated offensive zones (this is the only thing I can come up with as to why all the players just stand around on offense). We cannot beat a 2-3 zone, think about that, the same 2-3 zone we've all played against since we were little bulldogs. Here are a few examples of how to beat a 2-3 zone: the first and craziest concept, MOVE WITHOUT THE 17-ING BALL! Any "in bubble" screen and get the rock in the middle, of course, the players will have to leave their designated "offensive zones". a 2-3 is designed to make opponents take shots from a further range, this coach cannot even get our 3 trigger happy team an open shot from behind the arch (where they want us to shoot it from). We are a 3 point shooting team that cannot beat a 2-3 zone.... blank stare... still blank stare</div><div>Game Management: The timing of our timeouts are mind-boggling, he always waits one possession too long (especially on the road) to call timeout, he cannot feel the flow of a game, thus giving up any momentum we had and putting us in a deeper hole. Granted, other than giving our players a breather, the timeout will be useless as I cannot remember the last time we scored on a "drawn up" play after a TO. My personal favorite: in a close game, Stans will call TO's after made MSU baskets.. WTF? is he that nice of a man? Don't make them call their own TO to draw up a play, Stans will do it for them! and for what? are we confused as to if we are going man or 2-3? He as already done this four times this season. In my opinion, basketball is a "free played" sport, you play within the system of your coach, but you have got to have 5 or 6 go-to plays to get you points when you need a basket to stay close in games. we've never had that under Stans.</div><div>Yes, as I stated already, there are many issues revolving around the program, but I believe the real problem is that I'm a guy that played only one year of high school basketball and coached one year at MUMC, can point out such noticeable flaws in our Div 1, SEC, 13 year head coach... that's a problem! I've been guilty of strictly watching SEC sports, but the next time you see KState, Duke, UNC, UK, UNLV on TV, watch for a minute. Can we get a better coach? Is that a serious question? Of course we can...</div><div>Thanks to the pack, it's the first and last website I checkout everyday!</div><div>
