Hello Dawgs fans, me and some friends will be visiting your town for the first time for the October 12th game. Every year we pick a BG game to attend and this year we decided to head to SEC country. So a couple to questions:
Are there any eating places that are most try?
We are in our mid to late twenties, so any bars that we should go to or avoid?

Where is the place to tailgate?
Are there any pregame traiditions that we need to see?
Any specific rules for tailgating?
What are the rules for drinking at tailgating? (No liquor, needs to be in cups, Etc.)

Thanks for the info and looking forward to celebrating Mississippi State homecoming with you all.
PS. I root for my team hard, but I fully expect to lose. We go to the games more to experience new places and meet people then to come back victorious.

Howdy,

You'll find the answers to most of your questions at gameday.msstate.edu

Local places to eat: The Little Dooey (barbecue), Oby's (New Orleans style sandwiches), you could even check out the post-game radio show at The Veranda. There are also a ton of places downtown.

Bars: Rick's, Dave's Darkhorse, Halfway House, Stagger In Grill. (I'm sure the younger folks will chime in with more).

Pre-game, try to make the Dog Walk in The Junction about 2 hours before game time (I hope you like cowbells!)

In general, we're a pretty friendly group on gameday. As long as you're not acting like an *** and trying to stir up trouble, you'll have a good time.

Are there any eating places that are most try? Little Dooey, Veranda, The Grill, lots of others
We are in our mid to late twenties, so any bars that we should go to or avoid? Anything on Main Street or Cotton District (Avoid Cowbells and Hunt club)
Where is the place to tailgate? Anywhere around the stadium is open for tailgating after 4 on Friday
Are there any pregame traiditions that we need to see? Dawg Walk through the Junction
Any specific rules for tailgating? not really
What are the rules for drinking at tailgating? (No liquor, needs to be in cups, Etc.) anything goes as long as it is in a cup.

Be sure and wear that game jersey. Tucked into your jeans, of course. ***

Short and sweet version, light on the sarcasm.

Get a gyro or deep dish at Daves. Any bar on Main Street and in the Cotton District should suffice. Avoid Cowbells if you have a gold mohawk. Drink local beers (Lucky Town, Lazy Magnolia, Southern Prohibition, Crooked Letter). Get ice cream (muscadine ripple) and cheese (vallagaret) from the Mafes store. Tailgate in or near the junction if you don't mind lugging your stuff or dropping it off before going to wherever in the hell you can park. Booze is legal 21 and over on campus. No need for cups. You can get a public drunk if you're an ***. Lock it in your cooler during the game. That's not mandatory, just a suggestion.

Welcome to campus. I've been to BG a couple of times (Corvette cruse-in at the Museum) and enjoyed the place. And of course, have driven through a few times going north.

About the only thing not covered that you asked is about liquor. Technically, it's not allowed on campus. But the rule is violated more than any other I've ever seen. You might want to disguise whatever you're drinking in a cup though since you'll be in BG gear.

Otherwise, hope you have a good time on your visit.

In case you ever worked for ESPN...

We're the school in Starkville, not Oxford. ESPN can't seem to get that straight.

Are you still bootlegging booze into Starkville? Booze has been legal to possess on campus if you are of age for a few years now. We dedicate an entire table for a bar at our tailgate. The only liquor we hide is the good stuff we don't want to share.

Mid-thread jack.

Last year I saw campus PD taking people's beer at adjacent tailgates. Don't know if they were busting under age drinkers or not; didn't appear that way.

I think it was the AU game. Tailgate near ours finished loading most of their beer into a large igloo ice chest but still had some left in the box. Two officers roll up, say something, then take the box of remaining beer and go to another tailgate and repeat. Since then we've kept ours in cups and out of plain view.

I've been reminded by cops that we're not suppose to have it out there

As recently as this year.

As long as you're making an effort to keep the containers out of plain view and pour your beer into cups then your fine. If your tailgate is well concealed with wing-walls and such then you can be a little more open about it, put some bottles on a table, and maybe forgo the cup for a koozie.

As someone with a little working knowledge of MACtion! here goes:

this might be informative. Or confusing.

If you find yourself in a town that resembles Athens, and a campus that reminds you of Miami (pretty buildings, daddy's BMW); you have made a wrong turn somewhere and ended up at Ole Miss (didn't this actually happen to some opposing fans a few years ago?).

Ironically enough, if the town reminds you of Oxford (the Ohio one), and the campus seems more BGSU-ish, congrats. You found it.

I haven't tailgated in maybe four or five years, but when we did booze and beer were still done openly but ignored by the campus police. Didn't know the policy had changed. I do know though that they allow you to "stock" your locker in Club and Suites ... thought they were just ignoring the policy. And I think they were for a long time because it's been there openly since they opened.

After reading the article, I can't tell if this is the coolest place in the world (ability to drive with a beer) or the craziest (getting your 6er confiscated at a traffic stop) lol Glad the game is at this college and not the other one, I don't want to have to get dressed up to tailgate and watch football.

You're going it fit in well. The only thing not mentioned is that Stone Blvd, which runs by the stadium and The Junction is closed to vehicle traffic 3-4 hours prior to kickoff. If your going to set up a tailgate, do it early or Friday afternoon after 4 . Or better yet ,bid on the Tailgate company's auction for that game.

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not, but I would strongly recommend not trying this. Unless you're a history buff just wanting to see where Johnny Cash went to prison.
