My father-in-law is getting ready to retire, and he's planning to do some fishing from a kayak in the gulf. So I'm not looking for a deep sea set up, but something that would work for his plan. Does anyone have suggestions for what would work for that? His birthday is coming up.
****, if you’re talking about reels it depends on how well you get along with him or how deep of **** you’re in with your wife.
Shimano Stradic 4000 (great reel, I have a pair of them): you can find it for under $200
Shimano Thunnus 4000: mid tier, more saltwater focused than the Stradic, it’s between $200-400 depending on where you shop.
Shimano Stella 4000: not worth the money, but it’s too of the line. Purchase if you’re in deep **** and need to show how much you love her by really impressing dad with a gift. $6-700 or more.
If you really want to be a boss, buy the reel and take him shopping for the rod. I never recommend rods to people because it’s like a woman. It’s all preference. Take him to a local saltwater shop and let him walk through them testing them out. Length, stiffness, action, grip, all are preference and important.
If he slow trolls rapalas, you might be looking at different setups altogether. What I listed above was strictly spinning rods.
