I tried Sardines and I just can't. And I'm pretty good with weird foods. I know they're amazing for you, but they were just TOO fishy/slimy/smelly for me.
I'm like you. I can do mackerel (especially the med blend from King Oscar) and kipper snacks though. Since they are smoked, kippers actually aren't that fishy.

Don't eat around co-workers, though.

I've seen variations of this. And I have to say, it's pretty solid if you need to get in your vegetables, which I'm a big believer in being a key to weightloss, health, longevity, etc. She doesn't say what dressing she used.. so for now I did a like a 1/3rd cup of Greek dressing and a little extra red wine vinegar... very good, easy, extremely healthy, and cheap.. that's always key for me: how many boxes can you check off. The more the better, and the more likely I'll eat it.

The only veggies in that are onions. Corn, cucumber, tomatoes, and peppers are all technically fruits. The chickpeas are legumes. Still looks great but just pointing that out as a major nerd.

Re: massage

I talked about this place before and heading back tonight. None of the western massage variations comes close to the tension, compression and joint relief this technique offers. Have had lower left sciatica issues for years and every time I leave this place it’s dormant for a few weeks, usually when I’m feeling great and overload dead’s or squats.

Well worth the trip for anyone in Louisville or Lexington.

Last night, enjoyed a concert at the Garden (the Allman Brothers{sans either brother}). Dope. NYC traffic at 11:45, yielded a home arrival at 1:00am.

Met my trainer at gym at the regular time of 5:30. Chest/Tris heavy.

No preworkout/caffeine, fasted for 12:00 noon cardiac stress test and CT calcium score.🙏🏻

Doubt it. He goes over any ailments up front (sciatica and left rotator here) and is mindful of those areas while also focusing on them to alleviate pain. You have some instantaneous relief walking out but the next day / days after is when you notice the biggest improvement in those troubled spots.

Friday weigh in post vacation.
Up 4 lbs from March 1...... and down 3% body fat.🤯

Wild ****, man. They always talk about it but first time I've been able to actually do it. Cut for first 8 weeks of the year. Body weight drops 13 #'s but only 1-1.5% BF reduction during that time. Keep the diet strict but increase calories the next 4 weeksin March and BOOM. Mind blown. I'm back on a cut now. Just hard to wrap your head around.

Also, feel strong still, not like I normally do on a long strict cut.

Well - I don’t like to give updates too frequently as I feel I’m pretty up and down about the way I look for whatever reason. I’ve been religiously taking creatine and lifting at least 3x a week and have significantly increased my eating (and calorie intake) and reduced alcohol after reading this thread for the last year. Anyway I thought I looked pretty decent this morning so I weighed myself and I was 169 lbs. I’ve always weighed around 160 at my best, and last Labor Day posted about how I weighed 163 and how happy I was with how I looked. But if I weighed 163 now I’d probably have a 6 pack. My wife also told me I looked more “muscly” a couple weeks ago. So I think at the ripe age of 44 I’ve managed to add about 5 lbs of muscle with little to no fat. And it’s not even summer when I can get myself in the best shape. I just never really thought I would do that. I’m pretty amazed by it, and gotta thank this thread honestly. It’s motivated me to maybe even get more into it and see how far I can get this midlife crisis to go.

I've been using creatine gummies to quash my sweet cravings. Pushing my intake up to 15g+. Also, giving it to my 9 yo. Probably wait a couple before dosing the 4 year old. That little f*cker eats enough food anyway.

Also, started mixing the powder with a flavored EAA and taking right after my workouts.

Yup. They recommend 5g for everyone. That makes no sense. I weigh 222#s. Why would my dose be the same as yours? Hell, I could actually need less because I eat a couple pounds of meat per day. Your stomach will tell you if you're taking too much but we've seen enough evidence that up to 20g per day is beneficial if you're active. Do 5g per day. If that doesn't disagree then do 2 scoops on workout days and just continue to step up. I like 15g. 10 of powder and 5 of gummies through out the day. It's a pretty cheap supplement so if you're getting a little too much you just piss it out.

I will say, you need to drink more water if you bump up.

I go by my scale also… but the fat % calcs as the prime focus. Since January (time I bought Hume Body Pod) my fat % is down 7.5%. Lean Mass up to 141.5# from 134#. Getting after it. Lats, legs & back are getting the beaten by trainer.

By mirror… wearing stringers to gym🥰.

Overall, down 80# since last June 17th. All fat. Need new clothes again.

Then comes this contrarian “Dr.” douchebag.

Did you watch the video? He goes on to explain how the study could've missed the mark and the mountain of studies saying how it works. Basically, it's not anabolic steroids, that study had a 3# variance over 12 weeks, the results of creatine tend to take longer than that to show gains, and it's beneficial to more than just lean mass.

A good coach/trainer is really hard to beat. Didn't want to get up and work out at all. Definitely wouldn't have if not for the standing appointment. Go in and dude wears me out.

Really feeling the no carbs. Gonna go a few more days and add some back in.

Today was my last session with trainer for a bit. So she killed me. Lats, back, rows, bicep, TRX, dumbbell pullovers, barbell rows… stairmill 3 movements supersetting.

Gonna revisit with her over summer as I level up.

I was 100% wrong and I'm as guilty as anyone. Adkins Diet propaganda that has led to tons of misinformation on the subject.

Until this year I've avoided them for the most part but it's not even close with workout and recovery efficiency. Don't care what anyone says. Especially in workout carbs.

I still haven't had the chops to get to equal protein and carbs but I've really increased my intake and it makes a difference.

Ha, yep. But try it out, and just like she says, it's lasts for a good 4 or 5 days, even with the dressing. I just ate spoonfuls of it every day.

Id like to get back on creatine (and maybe I never needed to stop).. but once i wasn't able to workout for a few months, it just made me beefy lol. In my experience, I need to be working out fairly consistently when taking creatine.

Kid starts day care in 2 months so I'll finally have some time back in the day.

I just started back to the gym this year at 43 y/o, after a few years off. Shoot ball for a few minutes to loosen up, do a few stretches for lower back/core, hit the elliptical to burn a quick 100 calories and get the blood pumping, then lift. 4 or so exercises on a given muscle group (Day 1 - upper body pushes, Day 2 - upper body pulls, Day 3 - butt and legs, Day 4 - core, repeat), 3-4 sets of 8-10 reps each. Generally in the gym for ~45 minutes, 4-5 days a week.

Took a month or two, but I'm starting to feel much much better. Job requires me sitting at a desk ~8 hrs a day, which has resulted in lower back stiffness, pain, and occasionally it "goes out" causing nearly complete immobility for 1-5 days, which is the absolute worst. Doing okay currently though.

I don't necessarily overeat, but I wouldn't say I try to eat healthy either. Considering creatine.

Also, unplanned, I pretty much stopped drinking alcohol this year. Just don't care for it anymore. Occasional social beer or cocktail, but never drunk. Rarely even catch a light buzz.

5'10, 195ish. I have found it very difficult to get my weight out of the 190s in either direction for the last 20 years or so. Would like to be 180-185, I think. My real goals, though, are to be stronger, more agile and avoid injury. Gotta keep up with the kids.

Fitness whizzes, feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong and how I can improve the routine without complete life-altering unsustainable stuff. I'm all ears.

Track your calories until you get comfortable eye balling it. Chatgpt or Myfitnesspal for tracking. You're not far off my size. I was steadily losing weight at 2200-2400 calories. 10lbs should be pretty easy for you, so no reason to do it in 3-4 weeks, just chip away. Aim for 180g of protein per day as the core of your meals.

Just avoid trying to do too much too fast. We've all done it, several times. If you cut calories, reduce workouts. If you increase, too build muscle, increase work load. Pretty simple.

Lastly, post updates in here to keep yourself accountable. Helped me a ton. Even if meant missing my big goal last year, which I did.

Find some mobility stuff online for you back and mix those in on light or rest days. Hank seems to have some good sources for mobility.

Hahaha. I feel like the hamstring curl machines do next do nothing. Whether its lying down or sitting. For hammys I usually do a Stiff leg Deadlift or RDL, then either Single leg RDLs with a KB, then some KB swings, and then I like to use the hyperextension machine.. I have no idea if that's the most efficient way to hit Hammys.. but I try and do at least 3 of the above on leg day. Mixed with 3 quad lifts.. and then something for calves and something for glutes.

For some reason creatine put some weight on me when I was trying to trim down. When I quit creatine, the weight dropped back down to previous weight within a week. Probably not an issue, but psychologically, I need to see about a half pound drop each week to keep me motivated with workouts and sensable eating.

I retired from a job in financial industry for 45 years. I started taking a five minute walk around the office break every hour and it helped my back tremendously.

Dealt with my back “going out” regularly. PT said most lower back issues come from tight hamstrings. Put some work into stretching them daily. Helped tremendously. I got a reverse hyper for the house to supplement this. Has changed the game for me.

I think that strictly looking at the muscle benefits of creatine, you really need to get after it in the gym, and be on top of your diet. And the hard part for me right now, is that it's very tough to find the time for 5x a week lifting sessions. Some weeks I just can't make it at all. I'm sure the creatine is helping brain function, but I almost feel like I'm simply not fully committed to a gym routine to warrant creatine use. And I'm kind of OK with that.

If it puts on weight at the beginning it really means you probably need it. Weight isn't bad when it's muscle. Jump on the body fat scanner and track BF instead of weight.

Easiest way to stop the water retention is to increase water intake and hit the sauna.

There's really nothing outside of working out and and eating well that has the ROI of creatine. I've seen some estimates of 2-5% increase in gains and capacity. After the honeymoon phase, that's huge.
