Anyone ever mess around with asymmetrical weights? I've been doing presses and squats with a 16k kettlebell in one hand and a 20k bell in the other and alternating between sets of late. It started as an attempt to build up my ability to do volume with double 20k bells.

The muscle fatigue has been crazy. It sounds strange but I think I can feel the microtears in my muscles healing the night after I do those workouts. The perceived effect I feel is way outsized to the weights I'm pushing. For the squats especially, doing mismatched weights is actually harder for me than doing double 20s.

Kind of interesting. I feel no need to add extra "core" work, beleedat.

I've do some unilatetal stuff. Rows and anything on cables is typically that way. Doing DB Bench that way is tough. Really turns it into almost a compound lift. Never tried varying weights

-finally getting back to the trainer after a protracted break... work/life stuff. Gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on joining the gym we train at once weekly. Expensive as hell... but never a more than a few folks in at a time... has cold plunge/infrared sauna... and I need 3x a week if possible*.

-I play tennis 2-3 times a week... so that covers cardio. Even at 50+ athleticism sets me apart in both 18+ and 40+ usta, I'm not a lessons guy (at this point).

* when I get to the gym a few times a week I am at least a step faster on the court... feels good/wins points.

-last I checked body fat(fall), I was at 19... 15-16 would be great.

-down 10 lbs(to 230) since Jan, most of that is diet related... that's good because I have a bet w/ 4 other tennis buds. Don't *really* care about weight, i "carry it well"... just don't wanna have tits.

Push ups, db bench press, flys, and pullovers will prevent man tits. Pick a weight you can get 8-12 with 2 in reserve and gradually move up. Someone with your base will get stronger very fast.

One week in the book of full body split lifts. Some early observations...

...allowing for proper rest (2-3 min between sets), lifts take longer. 75 minutes appears to be the run-time. Longer than I'd prefer with stretching before and after, but given only 2 of those days are work days, can't complain...

...the mental aspect of not completely murdering a muscle group is going to take some time to get over. Ex - 1 warm up, the 3 sets of 100# dumbbells for 8 reps is all the chest in one session. Feels odd to just move on to another muscle group...

...having said that, getting a glimpse of the advantage behind that where you can put your back into a lift and go near/to failure with a heavier weight since you aren't taxing it on tertiary exercises...

...definitely feel fresher allowing 48+ hours between lifts...

...giving this a run through summer, at least. May adjust in the fall when calories increase to add another day.

because my lift routines have increased in time duration, I’m sprinkling in 2 days of cardio-only (with lat raises) per week. I can’t make into city with commute on in-person days. Heavy push, pull, leg days interspersed.

Today was pull (back, shoulders, biceps). 4 movements per each for 12 total. Crushed. Getting a lot stronger.

I haven’t taken a single day off from gym in 3 weeks. And basically, since Sept, I’ve only taken off 4-5 days per every month prior. There is no magic sauce except discipline and consistency.

And if you’re blasting yourself in the gym, the last thing you’ll do is stray off the diet… I mean, why bother.

Off days and rest are super important. Especially when dieting. Can't grind yourself into a pulp or you're gonna be fighting injuries constantly. If you're destroying yourself you gotta really up calories and make sure sleep is dialed. When in caloric deficit, less exercise. When crushing workouts 7x per week, more calories. Both should be short durations.

3x Full Body, worship. I'm exact opposite with mentality. I love the thought of checking a body part off then on to the next. Also, never being sore or tired.

Had my first cupping session yesterday and apparently selected the 'active cupping therapy'. So unlike just lying there with the suction cups to improve blood flow, she had me incorporate varies stretching techniques while looking like i had a hive of Alien spores attached to my back to apparently get a deeper fascial release.

Some decent sciatica relief and only $40 a 30 minute session, will add this into the recovery repertoire 2-3x a month.

New massage therapist used them during my most recent massage. She was sliding them around after they were under suction. Felt fantastic. Our boy buff can do them as well.

Had some dry needling done yesterday during PT. That is some wild ****.

I'll tell you what stats I won't be posting right now -- my snoring from 8 Sleep. Between allergy season and trying to up the intensity in workouts before a planned break for vacation, I'm snoring like a log.

My poor wife. I take a daily OTC Allegra. Might be time to see about getting something prescription. I assume this snoring also gets in the way of my gainz, too, so alas.

It’s funny how I swear by the Hume’s accuracy when the trajectory is all headed in the positive direction…

The last three mornings that thing is a piece of ****.

And no, I won’t be participating this week.

Has anyone tried red light therapy to help them recover? I thought it sounded crazy at first , but I've been using it 3-4 times a week for a month now. I'm 44 , and a lot of the aches and pains I had gotten used to are gone now. I'm playing full court basketball again after giving that up years ago due to knee and hip pain .

Great reviews but just seems like voodoo to me. Interesting. Where are you getting your red light?

Took several weeks to wake my body up from about a decade of a mostly sedentary lifestyle, but I'm back in the groove now and feel years younger. Tough to quantify, but it seems like the creatine is really doing some work. Everything just feels better and younger. Fewer aches and nagging pains, able to move around athletically. Starting to see gains when lifting.

I played baseball with 8 year olds basically all weekend. 4 months ago, if I had done that, I wouldn't be able to move today. Instead, I kicked *** (my own) in the gym. Getting to this point was actually a huge goal of mine. Time to move the goalposts. Probably gonna focus on the mirror and increasing resistance in the gym. If my body holds up, may go for some athletic goals like dunking (or maybe just grabbing rim or dunking 9.5'... I'm 43 and 5'-10"), hitting a baseball out on a HS/College field, throwing a certain velocity, etc. Those are more fun.

Kiddo hit 6 months on Saturday, and I now weigh less than I did when I got pregnant. Thanks, bronchitis, you damn gainstealer. I did a quick upper body circuit yesterday to try to shake the dust off (after being completely laid out for a week plus) and on the good side, my muscles still work. On the bad side, slightly elevated breathing makes me hack like a smoker, so that's not great.

It is hard AF to get in any kind of training groove working full time with a baby, y'all. But before I got sick I was hitting it hard 3x a week again, and given how many things I'm juggling, I'm pretty proud of that. New mom progress isn't always linear, I guess.

So this is where all you ******** are hiding?

Not fans of antisemitism, shady car sales tactics, school board murder plots and water heads?

After a really fun health scare that was greatly eased by Pretzels real life story and the recommendation for certain blood testing, I'm finally getting back on the horse this week. Not comitting to a gym just yet, but have committed to 4x 5ks on the mill and at least 3x 30 min resistance band workouts.

Also hovering around 230 at 6ft tall and need to avoid tits as well. The age of 40 is hitting like a basket of **** bricks, however. Lower back is questionable, ankles feel brittle and I'm genuinely concerned about my left shoulder.

We'll get there though.

Things are actually better than ever. Not sure if I posted elsewhere but at the beginning of the year I started waking up with a racing heart above 90BPM.

That threw my anxiety into overdrive and my heart rate would hover between 80 and 105 all day long. And heaven forbid I slip a weekend gummy, I actually hit 130 on a Saturday night sitting at my desk doing absolutely nothing.

I have a stress test next month but I essentially got the blood test you recommended and started temporary beta blockers to get my **** together. They don't think I have any blockage but it was a wake up call and I appreciate you sharing your experience when I clearly needed some reason to go see my GP.

My GP is a pretty practical person and said that I am likely A.) not taking work stress seriously (I never feel stressed and have had stressful jobs before but apparently it can sneak up on you) B.) Experiencing some modicum of a mid life crisis as it was just a few months before turning 40 (I don't care about age but apparently my brain does) or C.) A possible heart murmur that I've had symptoms of in the past but has never been confirmed.

What's crazy is that I can run on a treadmill for 45 minutes to an hour and never hit 140 BPM and immediately have a normal conversation with you but if my 6 year old daughter wants me to carry her up the stairs I'm sometimes wheezing like I just chained an entire pack of filter-less Marlboro Reds.

Being a middle aged human is weird.

All very fixable issues. Sounds like you're addressing the ticker, just find a good PT, and get to work on the mechanical ****. Nothing better for stress than a good workout.

Can you get in a 15-20 minute workout like 5 or 6 days per week rather than your old school 3x grind sessions? Maybe, 2 compounds or something? Just listened to crazy *** Isratel on MP talking about the cell memory after you've previously been jacked. You probably need very little volume, certainly not competition volume, to get pretty jacked.

My cardiologist has distractingly large set of chest beefers. No chance I get an accurate blood pressure reading in her office.
I run 10-12 pts higher in office. My cardiologist said to measure once per week either first in the morning or right before bed. Certainly not mid day or near a stressful part of the day.

Whoop has a new strap out that is supposed to take daily blood pressure readings. I'm getting mine in the mail tomorrow.

With my stressful *** job and hearing stories like Beck's and pretzel's husband makes me really want to focus on my heart health.
