I’ve been doing kettlebell Bulgarians too, and they’re amazing. I mean you just hit everything in a slow, controlled manner. Elevated the front foot on a plate for extra extension obviously.

I prefer the safety bar too, anth. It makes it much better on my back and I think it was Jay Cutler that said once he stopped competing and was over 40 he doesn’t do almost anything back-supported. The pendulum squats and the hack squats are an awesome replacement.

Trap bar squats and deads are nice too.

I don’t really care about the stabilizer muscles because I get those done in a bunch of other ways. I usually do sets of core and adductors/abductors in between sets of certain exercises, not the entire workout, but just during exercises where I don’t need to completely sit and relax and recover. Zercher side lunges, KB Cossacks 👍.

Give me Graeter's or give me death. (As a treat, not every night, obv.)
You deserve Graeters as you have the years of training under your belt. Some of us (former) fatasses can pass for a bit for the years of downed pints of ice cream.

If you can take a pill to instantly change, you can choose looking like a fit dad or a body builder, I guarantee that once enough work is put in - one would choose the Northstar to look like a fit body builder…

in any case. Came back from KY last night and was welcomed by complete reorganization and closed areas of my 45,000sf gym. Chaos. Let’s just say, I got my steps in finding all my pieces of equipment.

New Presidential Challenge. The Bobby and Pete Challenge.

50 pull ups
100 push ups

10 minutes

I won a bet with buckethead like 5 years ago by doing 200 push ups in under 10 minutes. I'm thinking I could get close to Bobby and Pete's 5 minute mark.

Would be tough to do unless you were in really good shape.

I assume they're gonna go pull up because that's the military test but Pete was doing some sus chin ups in that video. If I can do 25 pull/25 chin then I know I can get that 5 minute mark.

Regardless, I ordered an American Flag tank top and gonna give it hell Friday morning.
The key to completing the challenge is how you attack the two goals. The pull-ups are the nut buster, so my initial thought was to hit them out of the gate in 10 sets of 5 with slight rest between. Then two sets of 50 push-ups.

Your trainer countered with 10 rounds of 5 pulls / 10 push.

Interested to see what strategy you go with 🇺🇸

I was shooting around before my workout Friday before last, and randomly felt a subtle pop just above my tailbone, followed by stiffness and some mild pain. Continued my workout being careful to protect it. Woke up the next morning barely able to walk, and it got worse for 3-4 days. I would get unexpected, completely debilitating jolts of intense pain several times a day. Has slowly improved, but I'm on about day 10 now and pretty much unable to do anything more than sit, stand, lay down, and walk carefully. This kind of stuff has happened to me a handful of times over the last decade or so, but this is the worst episode. I always mistakenly think I can walk and stretch my way out of it, and it only makes things worse. Time and pain killers seem to be the only remedies.

Bowling Green. Don't have a PT. Had one in Nashville a few years back, but not since moving up here.

Zero chance anyone doing that challenge is going to have anything coming close to decent form on those pull-ups. 50 quality pull-ups is, in an of itself, a yeoman's effort if done properly.

GTFO with any kipping, etc.

Also, why we skipping leg day?
Those folks in the 2-4 minute zone were f*cking jacked. I bet they were doing 25 pull ups pretty damn close to legit. When I wrestled I could get 20 in a row. Now I typically do 10-8-8 but that's slow and strict form. I'll be moving quicker.

If I don't get 5 then I'll go again in a couple weeks.

Let me see if I can find you a contact. Start there. Sitting around won't help it. Low back pain is the f*cking worse, man. Can't sit, stand, lay down, walk. Ugh.

Push ups - no problem
Chin ups - GTFOH
The only chins up I can do is from the diving board while floating in the pool. I can do those like a rockstar.

Ran the half marathon this summer, didn't break any records, but I finished it in a little over 2 hours. Not bad for an overweight guy pushing 50. Taking a little time off before the fall, my favorite running season.

Both pushups and pullups done properly will cut down how many most can do.

Going to start working that challenge into my normal workout routine. I can knock out 100 correct pushups right now in 5 minutes or less. Pullups however... nope.

I could knock that out in I’d guess 4-5 minutes max if we’re doing chin ups. Pushups are easy for myself, couldn’t get there with pull ups due to no labrum in my right shoulder.

So many political/fitness jokes to make about those two goobers but I’ll not go there.

Got my bodpod results. 25.9% coming off vacation ain't terrible and certainly much better than the 32.07% my stupid scale said this morning.

My RMR is only 1,923 calories though. I dont want to be a hungry boy.

Does anyone have a guide on how to use the RMR info to come up with appropriate daily intake for my goals?

-Man, falling in love with all the variations of Zerchers are a great initiation into self-penance. Jesus H. Christ, Zercher Cossacks, forward and backward lunges, squats, step ups, Bulgarians, carries, etc all in the rotation.

WhatITF did I decide to do to myself and to actually start liking the challenge of the imminent pain in AC fossa is weird. 🤷‍♂️ guess we’ll do this for a while.

-Lady and I keep meaning to go to the Dexascan by her house but always forget. I think I’ve mentioned that our Muscle Rate is exactly the same to the thousandth of a decimal then she wins after that, 78% last time. Given that’s via our smart scale and we have almost exactly #100 difference in body weight. Just interesting.

Wife ran down to the university here and got to play with some of the toys.

Bioelectrical impedance 20.5%
BodPod 18.2%
DXA 21.2%

The variance between the methods is interesting. Have to see where she’s at in six months or so. Maybe wait til she does a deficit in the spring.

-That's very fit for a female. Good for her.

-Body pod was higher for me than garmin or in body. I'm going with the lowest. I need to do a DEXA at my high/low point next summer.

-Biggest week of the year last week. 2 tough rides and 1 easy. 3 lifts. 1 pure off day. Increased calories to try and help offset. Pretty depleted feeling today though. Adding some intra and post workout carbs.

-Positive news, sleep was amazing last night. 92 sleep score.

Tuesday FIT Randoms

I slept for 7.25 hours last night. A world record, for me.

Leg and core day today. Tough walk to office because of it.

Thinking about going to another trainer in the gym in a couple weeks. Need more positivity than my current gal. She gossips too much. I want to work my balls off and leave, not hear about everyone’s secret bullshít… I plainly don’t care.

Pussboi NYT

I found my kryptonite. Bread. My CGM looked like a Tokyo Richter scale after ingesting a quality baguette from Balthazar Bakery 👀.

Push day lift PB for pec deck, standing chest press and new decline machine…. Swole.

My wife and kid are effing annoyed with me on my constant badgering on better food choices. Whatever

LOL. These people kill me. Anything to be contrary to those who want to better themselves so they themselves won't feel bad for not doing it, which in itself is rather ridiculous. Not only that, but I don't think they were saying meet the standard right away but work up to it. Push-ups and pull-ups are great exercises unless you have injuries or a debilitating physical impairment that prevents you from doing them.
