I was wondering if you all polished off all those bottles, kook. Probably better that it was a tasting!
Complementary champagne, bubbles again with oysters opener, then -5- 1/3 glass flights per course, then comp Amaro after dinner drink. Sommelier kept our glasses full until the food course was done. So I ate slowly!
I was buzzin.

plus, I finished off the missus’ wine… which she had different selection pairings.

[what was cool was that I saw another anniversary couple across from us and this dude looked like he ordered a Boulevardier. I asked my server if it was. And started talking about bourbon. The waiter said the guy owns a bourbon bar in Frankfort KY. I said loudly “Go Cats!”… their heads snapped . Showed him pics of my collection…

talked to them for a bit and I maybe visiting House of Commons on Main St this trip down. Wild.

what is your favorite/best protein shake. I heard the fair life core powers are good quality but what are some of your alls favorites?
Don't do the Fair Life Core Power -- just do the regular Fair Life chocolate milk bottle with 30 grams of protein. Easily the best way to get down protein if you hate eating that much.

Here is a suggestion. Eat 3 regular healthy, high protein meals per day. Try to get in at least 30 grams of protein per meal. Then drink a regular Fairlife and eat an apple as a snack 3 times per day. Make SURE you drink one before bed.

That's 180 grams of protein right there without crazy changes to your routine. That was the only way I was able to stay consistently higher than 175 grams of protein until I got the hang of eating more.

Doesn't matter. Try a few different brands until you get one that you like. I never really cared for any of them and they all made me gassy.

4 wheels is far cooler than winning any bodybuilding contests, imo. Tattoo-worthy, even.

In kettlebells, there is supposed to be a WTH effect. For some people that leads to improved pull-ups without practicing them. I just tried and that is not true for me. I struggled to do one. That was disappointing because I've lost about 5 lbs and think I've put at least a bit of muscle, too.

On the other hand, however, my grip feels a lot stronger. I tried a dead hang for a minute just to see. It was hard but doable. If I struggled I probably had about 15s more hang time. I was also able to do 30s of static hold on olympic rings at the top position of a dip. Hard but doable.

I'll take both of those for not having spent any time on them. I might spend some time working on them before it gets cold, since I've got my bar and rings on my deck. I might lay off pull-ups though. I'm trying to avoid injury at all costs and I'm focusing on kettlebells at the moment, so why risk it.

Kook is coming around. I'm trying my best with him. 3 months ago, he was absolutely on a crash course with either injury or severe crash and burn. Proud of him embracing rest, repair, and not crash dieting while grinding his old *** body to a pulp.

I've come along way on hating KBs to actually digging them a bit. Still a side note in most of my plan. Hank's obsession is certainly... odd.

Is she familiar with the term ‘Dutch Oven’?

So... today I went:

225 x 3 bench
315 x 8 bench PR
335 x 3 bench PR
100 x 10 dumbbell flies

That makes the thought of cutting less appealing.
COTDAMN it slow down anth, can’t have you getting ahead of me.

Yesterday at a fire scenario training at the fire tower we had to force a metal door (on a forced door simulator) on the ground then go up the stairs to enter through said door to perform a search in full bunker gear on air. In the process of forcing the door with a halligan bar, I quickly got it most of the way open to a point where I should’ve flipped it and used better leverage than just the adz end and used the adz and the pick end to create a a 3 point leverage point. Well, I’m new and whatnot and my brain said touch that it’s taking too long (it wasn’t but time feels like it flies in those simulations), so I dropped the halligan and bull rushed the door from two steps away using my shoulder to lay hell on that machine, blew the door wide open and almost knocked the whole thing over. Whatever, it was open so we proceeded into the building, executing the search and finished the exercise.

Reviewing afterwards with the chief training officer, reminded us all the “ideal” way to finish forcing the door for most people would be to do as mentioned and create a 3 point leverage, but if you can just bash the goddamn thing in like Skattebo Stephens over here, be my guest. We don’t really give a **** how it gets open just that it’s open.

So it appears I have earned the nickname Skattebo since everyone was referring to me later that day like that. Not sure if it’s a good thing to be known as a no brain bull rusher but hell it was kinda funny.

Looked it up and we are the same size, 5’11” #220 🤷‍♂️

I do dead hangs almost every day. Have not pushed myself to see how long I could go before having to release yet, but I have gone beyond a minute to about 1 1/2 minutes once. Did not have an official counter set so...

Ron is gonna have 16" arms and Hank is gonna buy adjustable dumbbells by Summer.
False.

@warrior-cat my grip felt great on the bar hangs and I was playing with going back and forth with my grip in my hands. I would like to work up to seeing if I could do a one hand hang, even if only for a few seconds.

Edit: I just tried and I can hang for about 5 seconds or so with each hand solo. Weirdly my left hand is stronger than my right. I'm a righty.

I'll take that. I'm pretty surprised. My thumbs aren't long enough for a hook grip around my bar, either.

Wait til you learn about hook grip, you'll be able to hang on to everything like a bat. except...with hands.

Yo Skattebo, have you tried hanging shoulder shrugs/depressions? vid I love 'em as a warmup, especially. I have no scientific backing for this statement, but they seem to have contributed to shoulder joint stability for me, too.

I have just started with the shrugs this week. Been hanging for about a month to get the grip better and for depressing the spine. I am using the shrugs to start working up to more pullups than I can do now which is not many. I use the rings mostly so far so, we will see in about a month how far I am in my pull ups. At 5'9" and still weighing around 200lbs there is a lot of weight to pull up.

I have not, thank you for the video I will definitely check that out tomorrow at the gym and provide feedback. Much appreciated.

@Hank Camacho i think it’s relatively normal for your non-dominant side to be stronger, mine is as well. May have something to do with being more used to do heavier movements instead of micro movements that dominant sides usually. I have no scientific backing for that statement just bro science from my own perspective and years of wondering the same.

Pretz, I tried those and they definitely feel good when I contract but I still run in to the problem of discomfort on the eccentric part going all the way down. Maybe I’m doing them wrong.

once again, I have no scientific basis for this, but play around with grip width and see if that helps. If you can't get all the way down without pain, maybe just partial reps as your shoulder gets used to it? half repping has its place.

How's it goin' FITYERO?

It's been a long road but I'm finally back and I'd say 90% pain free. Found a good psychical therapist that traced the cause of my ankle/joint pain to a sciatic nerve issue in my back, which is weird because I've never really had a serious back injury. I still have numbness in my left ankle, outside left knee, and left hip. but very little pain and full range of motion. Was also able get the elbow healed up with some rest and a few new exercises. I was glad to learn my tendons weren't shot.

With that said I don't know how much of a future I have in lifting weights and running anymore. At my age I'm not sure if the benefits outweigh the negatives. I'm going to look into some new, fun healthy activities, that paired with a good diet and some lite exercise I'll be able to stay healthy.

Hiking-love to travel and hike
Martial arts- there is a boxing/kickboxing gym near me.
Indoor climbing- just sounds fun

I've been trying to keep up with the thread as best I can. so much good info on here.

Glad you went to a PT. A good PT is invaluable. However, you're never to old or injured to lift. Resistance training should be something you do until death bed. Especially if you have sciatic issues. You can reduce volume, weight, style and do just fine. Find a good trainer to help address those things.

Love the idea of incorporating activities based on stuff you're interested in or enjoy doing.

@GnarlsBarkley -- welcome! I love incorporating the activities I love into workouts. One of the reasons I love kettlebells is they are easily transported in a car wherever you are going.

I've been tracking my calories with SnapCalorie, a free app. I got it because of the AI photo recognition, which is actually worthless, but the voice recognition is really convenient and my wife and I have been weighing and measuring things for a week. It sent me weekly report and it might be worth upgrading to premium just to keep getting this.

Here are my stats for last week, in case there is anyone in the world who is interested.

Daily Average Macros:

Fat:112g(133%)
Carbohydrates:248g(106%)
Protein:195g(98%)
Calories:2755kcal(110%)

Daily Average Micros:

Saturated Fat:45g(268%)
