Five things that are going to continue to bite us that are apparent through 4 games....

1) We are really, really soft up the middle. I don't know how much of it is White, but I am pretty sure we don't have much in the way of Defensive Tackle. When teams run successfully on us, they are doing it between the guards. We need Carmon to find his feet quickly. I think Cox should probably slim down and play end, but what do I know? This is going to kill us against Bama.

2) We are not getting enough pressure on the qb. We are still missing an end opposite McPhee that can make plays. Several times the other night, we would send extra guys and still not get to Murray, which led to one on one coverage or guys finding soft spots in a zone. If you are going to send somebody, you've got to get there at some point. This is a big reason why we couldn't get them off the field on third downs, and why are a bend/not break defense. We are a pretty salty defense that gets in plenty of 3rd and longs, but we are not closing the door on teams.

3) Our receivers have regressed. Bumphis and Berry were absolutely better last year. I don't know what is going on with them. Bumphis is not really very sure-handed, and for whatever reason, he is not as "electric" when he gets it.

4) Kickoffs, with the exception of the big wind the other night are still bad. After the opening kick, the one kick that didn't go into the endzone saw a huge return for UGA. Also, we're not even getting back to the 20 when we are fielding kicks. Did the rule change that outlawed the wedge screw us up this much? I have no hope of anything happening on a kickoff anymore. Last year, you held your breath every time because you knew Berry was going to break one.

5) I think most agree that we are better off with the gameplan that we used the other night. And if that is the case, we are missing a dominant, big running back to compliment Relf. I really wish Conner had not quit the team, because I think he could've been that guy in time. He looked good in the spring game. I think Mullen was convinced that we were going to be about 50/50 running and throwing before the season started. The problem is that we have made too many mistakes in the passing game - interceptions, drops, failure to protect, and he realized that we had to win the other night and went to the bread and butter of running Relf. If that's what we are going to do all year, then we are the same offense minus a big back that everybody fears. We've got to figure out how to get the ball to Perkins more outside of the tackles. I think Bumphis needs more touches somehow, maybe out of the backfield. Running that offense without Dixon is a big reason why we had 10 points late in the game. Got to be creative without taking big risks.

He is great against the run game but him rushing the passer is straight bull rush 100% of the time.

if losing containment counts as "doing something." He is very adept at doing that.

at Co-Lin. I doubt he would have helped us very much if that's true.

We're getting pressure on the QB- we're just not getting them on the ground.

1.) Disagree- from what I remember the biggest runs against us have been QB flushes (fault of the DEs over pursuing) and the outside stuff Auburn had success against us. LSU did push it up the middle in the 4th, when our defense had been on a short field the whole game. I can't remember a sustained drive anybody has had against us and scored a TD.
2). Agree- our blitzes look cool, but theyhaven't produces turnovers ora whole lot ofsacks. I think we'll get better in this area.
3.) Disagree- We've played 3 SEC defenses with very inexperienced QBs. We have to run twice as much as we throw.
4.)Agree- we don't have a strong legged kicker. I think we should try the pooch kick to the 30 yd line.
5.) Both- I think Ballard and Perkins will do fine, but we do need to get Bumphis the ball more...somehow.</p>

...we need Ferguson or somebody to step up and get some pressure from that other side.

But yeah, he had Murray dead to rights in the first half the other night and it turned into a 20 yard gain or so.

We came dangerously close to having several turnovers against GA, the ball bounced our way for a change.

Kickoffs are no shorter this year than they were last year when they were only getting to the 5 or 10 yard line. But last year, our coverage was a lot better. We can't continue spotting people the 45 yard line. Just can't. If we do that and the defense isn't 100% lights out, then we're pretty much conceding a FG attempt on every possession.

Our 2nd biggest problem is KR. We need to start on the 30 or 40 yard line once in a while to give our offense a better chance. Instead, we do good to make the 20, which is completely unacceptable. I don't know why we've fallen apart in this area compared to last year when we were pretty good.

And...

Bumphis would look a lot more electric if Ralph would hit him in stride. Bumphis looks un-electric jumping high, making the catch, and being hit and tackled on the way down. He looks unelectric sliding to his knees to catch a ball over the middle.

I thought he did look electric on the play where he hit the cheerleader. He caught the ball just beyond the 1st down maker. Then he sprints backwards 5 yards and I'm thinking WTF. The he gets what he saw coming - a nice pick from our WR on that side of the field, and picks up another 20 or so yards. Looked fast doing it and looked like what I expect to see from him.

This is the reason we won. UGA was very unlucky....usually we are the dawgs on the wrong end of the bad luck.
