A few other thoughts on that game:

1. Those might objectively have been the worst home uniforms we’ve ever had with that ribbon atrocity. Vintage Adidas.

2. I thought Cordarrelle Patterson was going to be an NFL Hall of Famer based on that game. Didn’t quite end up being the case, though he ended up having a decent NFL journeyman career. Mostly as a kick returner, but I think he eventually got converted to an RB later in his career.

3. That TD pass by Dak was the first pass he threw all year out of that package and everyone knew that Mullen was setting it up to use in a tight spot. Worked out beautifully.

4. Tyler Russell kinda became the forgotten man that lost his job to Dak… but he was really good for us for most of that season.

Wasn’t this the year that our fans bıtched about us having “Hail State” in the endzone? I remember several people on here saying we looked like a high school team for doing that.

2011 was the year that we started putting Hail State in the endzone and included a hashtag on it for the Egg Bowl that year. We were quickly informed of the fact that putting a hashtag on the field was against NCAA regulations.....

I thought the same thing. One of the most impressive individual performances I’ve ever seen at DWS.

It wasnt that quick. The NCAA declared hashtags to be prohibited on field advertising before the 2013 season.

I remember looking that video up when the Cowboys were going after Patterson in free agency.

Also, that was the game that Derek Dooley (who would later join Dak with the Cowboys) coached from the press box after having knee surgery or something.

We didn't realize at the time how terrible Tennessee was that season. I think they went either 1-7 or 0-8 in SEC games that year. It still feels good to beat a name-brand school no matter how bad they are in a particular season.

I still cringe when randomly hailstated if I'm out in my MSU gear. Probably generational. I end up just awkwardly not responding. I don't hate it, but I don't use it that way, and it is never on the tip of my tongue to reply quickly when challenged. I'd likely never hotty toddy or war eagle either, if I had been raised wrong and were a fan of either of those.

I remember watching that game thinking "thank god they quit giving Patterson the ball." There was a big chunk of the game where it seemed like they forgot he was on the team.

Tyler Russell isn’t talked about much. He was a good passer, but I don’t know that he was Mullen’s style of QB. Mullen’s coaching staff, of course, was able to work with whomever was at that position.
