If Rettig rolled his ankle when he fell rolling out.
He can't play the 3rd string QB over Laviano.
He can't play the 3rd string QB over Laviano.
Sadly that's exactly what I thought too
He rolled his ankle douchebag.Does Rettig get credit for the sack on that play? There was not a defender in the area who could by credited. Tripped over his own feet? Can't say I've ever seen that before

You are an a$$hole. The reason he fell is he rolled his ankle.I guess it was pretty windy out there

I think Slyker is giving Flood advice on QBs. And that scares the hell out of me.

Who cares what he tripped over. He was going to be sacked anyway, just like Laviano would have been. Laviano can't even read a safety blitz or audible out of a run play when the defense has nine in the box.Wow... this posters Rettig colored glasses must have been firmly affixed to his face on that play.
Just watched the replay again of the game... and when I re-watched that play it confirmed the utter stupidity of this guy's comment. The only reason he fell is he tripped on his own feet. There was not a defender near him and any twisting or rolling of his ankle was due to him tripping himself up, stumbling and falling. As the announcers said, the "turf sack" occurred as "he tries to roll out and the 23 yard line just reaches up and grabs him". Seemed liked the announcers did all they could do to not laugh on the air. Felt bad for the kid. Sure hope that play doesn't get used to display the "bumbling Rutgers team".. If NJ.com was a News station they would be leading their report on the RU game with the clip of that play.
Starting to see why the staff opts for the current starter. Rettig throws a good long ball once in a while, but as he confirmed today... shaky in the pocket and very inconsistent with his throws. Still wondering where anyone feels he is such a clear cut decision as a better option. Today against the 1st or 2nd team D, before they put in the scrubs..... we saw 2 series of three plays and out. Went 1 for 5 for 2 yards and did not look comfortable in the face of the rush. Then in the last series against who knows what string defense... he throws the one nice ball... and then sacks himself to kill the drive. Not sure where the "he is clearly better" comments are coming from. Just dont see it. Especially after this game when he was able to get in against more of a first team look early in the fourth Q and did not move the team at all.
slyker, you might be on the only person on this board who feels the way you do.
slyker is Laviano your room mate?Maybe so, however that speaks more to the "Mob Rules mentality" of a message board and a topic like this, than the actual percentage of those who feel this way. When posters see the type of responses to this issue and how most posters discount all rationale thoughts opposing their viewpoint (and their are many) .... those with the opposing viewpoint just stay away.
Please explain how you rationalize sticking with a QB who has thrown for 140 yards and zero touchdowns in the past 2 games. Any rational person would come to the conclusion that the backup could do at minimum just as well while also opening up the possibility of better QB play. That's not a pro or anti either QB statement...it's just a football fan with basic common sense.Maybe so, however that speaks more to the "Mob Rules mentality" of a message board and a topic like this, than the actual percentage of those who feel this way. This all reminds me of the bowl game in Orlando against VT where Nova was having a bad game, it was winnable and Flood didn't make any attemp, imho, to try to win the game by making any kind of move. And an important game at that. Here we are years later and the trend continues. He rolls out his plan and it feels like he doesn't even give a darn whether it is successful. He just follows the plan. So frustrating to watch.
Please don't forget, this is the same coach who puts, his trust with the wrong persons,Fan evaluations suck. And we know what they say opinions are like! Does anyone here really think a coach is going to play someone over someone else, at this level, because he likes him better personally?! You are talking a seven figure salary and the security of his family, and he is going to risk that cause Chris is a nice guy? Are you all insane? The same boring unending complaints continued all the while Coach Schiano was here and now have transferred to our present coach. These men are professionals and this isn't Little League. The most talented, in the coaches opinion, play. This is what they get paid to determine. Fans have a right to feel anyway they want but after constant complaining you should step back an ask "Maybe, it's me?"
Please don't forget, this is the same coach who puts, his trust with the wrong persons,
The rookie teacher, the player that didn,t do his homework asignment, the player that used his
hands to a female, the player that drives drunk, the player who got involved in a fight, he was
advised to sit out. The player that rob their drug dealers. This coach is jeopardising his job with his poor judgments. So don't you think
it is possible he is making a poor choise with the QB's? He is lucky that qb
doesn't get killed, he is so overwhelmed.
I think the Laviano-Rettig discussion is starting to sound a lot like listening to people argue whether the Democratic Party or Republican Party is better. Both arguments are just distractions from the fact that there are major systemic flaws that don't change regardless who is running things.I re-watched our entire set of offensive plays against Wisconsin. After the second series, Wisconsin adjusted and dared us to beat them with a deep passing game. We never even tried. We had no time for our QB in obvious passing downs. Never had a chance. Is that the OL? Not exactly, they blitzed us every time and left their guys in a ton of 1 on 1's. They brought 6 or 7 every passing down.
We never adjusted and they played tight coverage and prevented the short underneath stuff. Never gave us more than a few seconds. That game was not on Laviano but on our OC who did a lousy job adjusting to what Wisconsin did to us. After re-watching he should have been left in Madison and told to walk home.
If what @zappaa said about Friedgen is true, we should have given him the keys to the kingdom and let him do whatever he thought best.
Except this is over the course of a season not just a game.I don't know who is the best quarterback, but given the offense barely has a pulse, why not try the backup? How do the coaches not just say "why not?". What do they have to lose at this point?
