Every time I see drinking raw milk brought up I think of this (trust it's readable) from Whiter Shade of Pale, the follow-up to Stuff White People Like. A couple of books from around 2010 that had me rolling, written as a guide by a white guy for "non-whites" and what they might encounter when they hang out with "us". Every stereotype you might imagine that had me howling, even those I've been/am guilty of.
A series of about 100, couple page, topics from expensive strollers to eating outside, music festivals, hardwood floors, Whole Foods and on. Highly recommend both if you enjoy a laugh at some of the things "we" do with digs at the left, right and in the middle. Needless to say Kashi cereal gets a chapter.

Raw milk way more likely to mess you up than eggs as long as you don't make it a habit of licking an unwashed eggshell fresh from a chicken. If we're being honest, drinking raw milk isn't too far disconnected from licking a cow's ***. With eggs, you at least have a shell giving some protection from fecal matter if you decided to go Rocky and down a half dozen raw.
Problem isn't the "too many false alarms / boy cried wolf."
It's the preparedness paradox. If we do a good job avoiding something - it will be perceived as not that big of a deal.
Think in football when you practice giving a look that takes away a certain play on defense, and then the opponent doesn't run that play all game. Then you think it was a waste to practice that because nothing happened with it.
A lotta *potential* to relate this scenario to Covid and how someone nuked a lot of pandemic disaster prevention things because we handle things easily. Remember Ebola being super scary? How many of us thought Covid would be like Ebola in Feb 2020?
But this shouldn't be on Trump. This should be a local Texan wake up call to invest in their own communities infrastructure and have better disaster preparedness - whatever form that needs to be. Making it a national topic is stupid.
But just like before - Texas probably won't do anything. I swear that state would burn at the stake someone pitching the idea of firefighters if they didn't already have them.

It was the remains of a tropical storm that went over the Texas Hill Country, it got some lift from the hills, and stalled. That area is known as Flash Flood Alley for a reason. See my above post from the local paper. The reason this one killed so many people and others didn't is most likely the same reason that nighttime tornadoes kill more people. It also hit on a holiday when there were likely a lot of people around who didn't really know how prone the area was to flash floods.
